NEW YORK –– A former FBI agent who was an executive at the fraud unit
of Empire Blue Cross and Blue Shield called two co-workers into his
office Monday morning, shot them to death and then killed himself, a
source told The Associated Press.

The apparent shooter, identified as a Blue Cross vice president, was
formerly an agent at the FBI in New Jersey, a federal law enforcement
source, speaking on condition of anonymity, told The Associated Press.

The shooting happened at around 8:20 a.m. at Broadway near 40th
Street. The site is a temporary office leased by Empire Blue Cross
and Blue Shield, said Soraya Rodriguez, a company spokeswoman, who
had no further details.
