Dear Friends for American Independence and Democracy,

It is time for all progressive individuals as well as activists involved in local and national peace movements to independently act and defend our individual freedoms. We must fight in unison to protect our precious civil liberties on the home front. Our collective mission is to permanently stop the Bush administration from callously using the cover of war in Iraq to propose multiplex unconstitutional draconian infringements on our individual and collective civil liberties.

The War hawks allied to this dubious administration are working overtime in the Congress and the White House to get the so-called "Patriot Act II" passed in Congress. Now is the time for “ALL” peace loving individuals and anti-war groups to push Congress very hard to protect American citizens inalienable Constitutional Rights of Free Speech and Privacy.

It is of utmost urgency to call, fax a letter or email every member of Congress. By performing this simple patriotic act, you will clarify to all members of Congress your individual stance and authority as a citizen of the United State to demand they wholly repeal the oppressive USA Patriot Act I and II. Please ask Congress to put an end to punishing Americans Citizens for the total incompetence of Bush’s secret bureaucratic shadow administration.

Dear Honorable Senator(s): _________________ (for your Senators)

Dear Honorable Senators of the United States Congress:

(For the Senators to contact on the list below)

Dear Honorable Senator Graham

On September 19, 1796 George Washington published his Farewell Address to the nation in a Philadelphia newspaper. This address on the unchanging sanctity of the Constitution was to be historically memorialized in this quote: ” The basis of our political system is the right of the people to make or alter their constitutions of government. But the Constitution which exists, ‘till changed by explicit and authentic acts of a whole People, is sacredly obligatory upon all”

It is for this reason that I am writing to inform you that I personally will never vote for any legislator or leader who does not defend our Civil Rights, Liberties, Free Speech and Privacy rights as guaranteed in the U.S. Constitution.

I am asking that the U.S.A. Patriot Act be declared unconstitutional and repealed on the grounds that it violates the privacy, due process and free speech rights of all Americans. The USA Patriot Act severely infringes on our Constitutional Rights, which are the basic foundation of our country that passed from our founding fathers.

The Fourth Amendment to the Constitution clearly states: "The Right of the people to be secure in their persons, houses, papers and effects, against unreasonable searches and seizures, shall not be violated;"
The tragedy of 9/11 was NOT a result of insufficient surveillance powers but of the institutional incompetence of our government’s intelligence agencies and unaccountable faceless bureaucracy.

As a concerned voter, I urgently request all members of Congress to consider the following:

1: Please REMOVE Attorney General John Ashcroft from the Office of US ATTORNEY GENERAL for good. His impeachable crime is allowing the Patriot Act to violate and outright subvert numerous Constitutional Rights of American citizenry - thus encroaching upon millions Americans' basic Civil Rights & Liberties, Free Speech Rights and Privacy rights. Attorney General John Ashcroft uses the retaliatory excuse of a shadowy war on terror to expand his state police powers to punish U.S. Citizens instead of thoroughly investigating the real perpetrators of terrorism.

2: Please Vote Against the Patriot Act II. The draft "Domestic Security Enhancement Act" contains a multitude of new and sweeping law enforcement and intelligence gathering powers -- many of which are not related to terrorism -- that would severely undermine basic Constitutional Rights and checks and balances. Should such lunatic law be adopted, the bill would diminish personal PRIVACY by removing important checks on government surveillance authority, reduce the accountability of government to the American public by increasing official secrecy and expand on the definition of "terrorism" that threatens the constitutionally protected rights of Americans.

3: Please REPEAL the Patriot Act of 2001 that allows the government to secretly monitor the recipient names and subject lines of suspects' E-MAIL messages and to seize certain personal records--which could include library books, credit card receipts, and medical histories. Even if the FBI never abuses these powers, the powers are so broad on the books that they will inevitably create a chilling and threatening effect that would discourage citizens from exercising their First Amendment rights.

4: Please REPEAL the Patriot Act that violates the Fourth Amendment Rights by allowing the FBI to search and seize records or personal belongings without a warrant, without showing probable cause –and without ever notifying even innocent people of the searches;

5: Please REPEAL the Patriot Act that violates the First Amendment Rights. It allows the FBI to easily obtain information about a person's reading habits, religious affiliations, internet surfing and other expressive activities that would be "chilled" by the threat of secret investigation;

6: Please REPEAL the Patriot Act that violates the First Amendment Rights by imposing a "gag order" that prohibits those served with Section 215 orders from telling anyone -- ever -- that the FBI demanded information, even if the information is not tied to a particular suspect and poses no risk to national security.

On the contrary, the newly released 9/11 report showed that it was the government's own failure to stop the terrorist activities that led to the attack on 9/11.

Many people believe that it was a conspiracy of prominent officials in the Defense Dept, White House and CIA who purposely let the 9/11 attacks happening so as to incite American hatred towards Muslim countries. Immediately after 9/11, top insiders in the Defense Dept quickly used 9/11 as the cover to wage War against Iraq (they may push Congress to attack Syria and Iran later.) Sadly, such cover took nearly 3000 Americans lives.

The ACLU Special Report on Independence Day said: ".... Overbroad Federal policies such as USA PATRIOT ACT, new FBI domestic spying guidelines, misguided anti-immigration laws, indefinite imprisonment of American citizens in a manner that strips them of fundamental due process rights, and the failed operation TIPS program --which would have recruited neighbor to spy on neighbor-- are but only a few." http://www.aclu.org/Files/OpenFile.cfm?id=13059

On behalf of “We the people”, I look forward to your making efforts to protect our Constitutional Rights and Liberties, in toto.

In Kind Regard,

George Washington
