PARIS, July 23: A journalist preparing a story on Saddam Hussein and his two sons Uday and Qusay for the French national news weekly magazine Le Point says that Uday was in the process of negotiating his surrender to the US occupation authority when he was killed on Tuesday.

According to Jean Guisnel, who is considered an authority on the Saddam family and Iraq and who was speaking to a reporter for French public TV channel France 3 on Wednesday, "Uday was in the process of negotiating his surrender because he had let it be known that he would prefer being handed over alive to US forces than being discovered by Iraqi nationals whom he feared might lynch him instead of turning him over to US authorities."

Although Mr Guisnel would not divulge the source of his information, he has often based his stories on Iraq on French intelligence sources.

The French journalist, Jean Guisnel: "The War in Iraq is to strengthen Israel’s position in the Region."

n a press conference, held at Zayed Centre for Coordination and Follow-up, Mr. Jean Guisnel, the French journalist and author of the book “The Horrifying lie”, said that if the United States waged a war against Iraq without the UN Security Council’s approval, this would be the end of the United Nations, which will not be once again capable of doing anything in future.

He also mentioned that the US military power is, in fact, fragile and suffers many discrepancies, describing President Bush as lacking political knowledge and experience, thus he is not able to deal with the international challenges. Mr. Jean Guisnel added that the American empire is, as a matter of fact, weaker than what is apparent, expressing his sorrow that USA is misusing its campaign against terrorism to achieve its strategic goals, that is, a total domination of the world – politically, economically, militarily, and so on.

The French writer expected that the war on Iraq is imminent, saying that the American goals behind this war are neither to combat terrorism nor to control oil resources in the area, but to strengthen Israel’s position in the region. He said that the American war hawks have been cooperating with the Israeli right-wing parties, considering Israel’s security as a top priority.

Mr. Jean Guisnel said that there is no evidence yet as to the Iraqi possession of mass destructions weapons.

Talking about the French and German attitudes, he said that they are convergent on their refusal of the war, mentioning that the French President, Jacques Chirac, expressed his intention to use the French veto against the war, if necessary.

He criticized the United States new emergency law which he considered as essentially aiming at the Arab and Muslim citizens, indicating that it is strange to blame all the Arabs for the terrorist attacks conducted by the Al-Quaeda.

The French writer expressed his doubt that the American military and the huge CIA are capable of gathering and analyzing intelligence information around the world, saying that all efforts to arrest Bin Laden and Mulla Omar have been a failure. He also doubted that this huge intelligence institution will be able to prevent any terrorist attacks on the USA, in future.

Finally, the writer expressed sorrow about the violation of human rights in Guantinamis, describing the conditions of the prisoners there as a tragedy.

He criticized the USA as speaking about democracy and human rights, while it violates them insistently.
