Greg Palast (and maybe others) have proven that not only did W. receive favored treatment to get into the Air Guard, but he couldn't even manage that for the term he signed up for.

He was AWOL after missing his mandatory medical exam, and subsequently received an early release -- even though missing the exam elicited a mandatory time extension.

Interestingly, another person who missed the medical exam the same month was James Baath (IIRC).
