IS IT TRUE?
How true is Khaled Sheikh Mohammed's claim about Al Qaeda's original plan to attack nuclear installations? It certainly rings true. The Sunday Times said Mohammed was an uncle of Ramzi Yousef, now serving a life sentence for the first attack on the World Trade Center in 1993. Yousef's group had trained near Three Mile Island and threatened to attack "nuclear targets". Well before 11 September 2001 Yousef apparently also had the idea of hijacking an aircraft and crashing it into the Pentagon.

July 10, 2003 -- WASHINGTON - The Sept. 11 attacks were given the code name "Operation Holy Tuesday" and precisely planned at an al Qaeda meeting in Malaysia chaired by terror mastermind Khalid Sheikh Mohammed in January 2000, it was revealed yesterday. The purpose of the three-day secret terror conference, which was monitored by the Malaysian secret police at the CIA's request, was to discuss details of how the hijackers should train and hide in the United States and how the attacks should be carried out. "This was the first planning meeting of the 9/11 operation. It was to review the progress they had achieved on the operation and to map out their future course of action," Rohan Gunaratna, the world's most renowned expert on Osama bin Laden, told reporters after he appeared before the commission probing 9/11. The meeting of terrorists in Malaysia has previously been disclosed, but Gunaratna added new details that have never before been revealed, such as the involvement of Khalid Mohammed.

Also, the name of the attacks, "Operation Holy Tuesday," has not been previously known. Gunaratna, based in Singapore, is a counter-terrorism consultant for the U.S. and British governments who says he has had access to records of interrogations of captured al Qaeda leaders. Mohammed was in charge of the Malaysia meeting and told some of the other terrorists there the targets would include the World Trade Center and the date of the attacks would be Sept. 11, 2001, Gunaratna said. "He was the emir - the emir is the leader - of the operation called 'Operation Holy Tuesday.' The al Qaeda name for 9/11 was Operation Holy Tuesday," Gunaratna said. "Certainly, they all knew it was a martyrdom opera tion . . . They knew the date." His statements reveal bin Laden's terror team picked the date of the 9/11 attacks nearly two years before those strikes were carried out, dispelling theories that the hijackers acted on their own timetable and might have accelerated their plans after Zacarias Moussaoui got picked up by the feds in August 2001. The feds allege Moussaoui plotted to take part in 9/11. Gunaratna said of Moussaoui: "He had a vision of crashing a plane on the White House, but his colleagues did not take him seriously."

The 12 terrorists who met with Mohammed in January 2000 at an apartment in Kuala Lumpur included two hijackers, Khalid al-Mihdhar and Nawaf al-Hazmi, who flew from there to Bangkok, Thailand and to the United States without interference, as well as Tawfiq Attash, a key planner in the October 2000 bombing of the USS Cole in Yemen.

U.S. intelligence agencies have previously come under fire for failing to stop the two hijackers from coming from the Malaysia terror powwow into the United States. Gunaratna said the CIA, even though it had pictures of terrorists who were there, didn't realize Mohammed was at the Malaysia meeting until last year, after al Qaeda operative Abu Zubaydah was captured and told U.S. interrogators all about it. Mohammed, who was nabbed in Pakistan in March, has since confirmed that he led the early 9/11 planning session in Kuala Lumpur, Gunaratna said.

U.S. intelligence officials yesterday denied Gunaratna's claim. "We have no information to suggest that Khalid Sheikh Mohammed was at the meeting in Kuala Lumpur. We don't believe it to be true," a U.S. official said.

The Left establishment's attack on 9/11 skeptics
Soon after revelations concerning Bush administration prior knowledge of the 9/11 attacks ("Memogate"), a number of well-known media "liberals" and "progressives" launched a heavy-handed series of broadsides against independent 9/11 researchers who had been developing alternative theories in response to the deeply flawed and fraudulent official story. Why would they do this, at precisely the point that the Bush administration was clearly sweating bullets and in deep trouble? This question is particularly important in light of the fact that the anti-conspiracy critics have not been able (nor apparently willing) to articulate their own theory of what happened on 9/11 (and why) which can explain the devastating evidence and contradictions that have been exposed by independent researchers. Instead of offering a credible explanation, the gatekeepers merely saw fit to pathologize 9/11 skeptics as "paranoid conspiracy nuts" and "a danger to our movement."

Not surprisingly, the rank and file didn't buy into the hype—nor were many convinced by the gatekeepers' offhand, passionless calls for an official investigation. Interest in alternative 9/11 reporting continued to grow, and by the time that members of 9/11 victim's families began publicly demanding an end to the government cover-up and even mainstream media outlets such as the NY Times were admitting that the lack of an independent investigatory commission was "extraordinary," the Left media gatekeepers backed down and adopted a new tactic of silent stonewalling and tacit support for the official story.
