Only he knew, and the answer he took to the grave with him. Orwell's other great work titled Animal Farm was another look into the future by the master fortune teller. Will we have telescreens and a ministry of truth as he fortold in 1984? The jury is still out on that one. As for his predictions found in Animal Farm, he was right on the money. They have already come true. Orwell tells the story of the birth and growth of communism then proceeds to foretell the suprising transformation of communism into a quasi-capitalist movement barely distinguishible from capitalism itself. Except of course that the strong arm of social control remains totally communistic in nature. The end result, exactly like the China we see today, an economic powerhouse of capitalism coupled with the brutal tyranny of communistic slavery. As for the capitalists, the once bitter enemies of the communists, in the end they become friends with the communists. In the last paragraph Orwell hints at what has happened to them:"The creatures outside looked from pig(communist) to man(capitalist), and from man to pig, and from pig to man again; but already it was impossible to say which was which."They meet in the middle, find common ground, and become one. Exhibit 1. Walmart and their mutually beneficial relationshp with the Peoples Republic of China. Ignore this book and it's dire warning at your own peril. Communism is coming to America, if in fact, it is not already here.
