# June 8. O'Reilly loves to equate success with selling books. He has repeatedly mentioned his book sales on his program. So how is his book doing on Amazon.com?

Note: Shown is the hardcover edition. The 'Large print' mentioned is a link to another type of book.

How's Al's book doing?

# June 7. On CSPAN 2, Sunday, June 8, 2003:

At 530pm will be Bill O'Reilly's call-in interview with CSPAN2.

At 545pm will be the actual forum where the sparks flew.

And at 715pm Al and Molly Ivins will take listener calls.

These are repeat episodes, of course.

# June 4. A quote from the Bill O'Reilly radio show, courtesy of sister-site the-hamster.com:
"In the Old West, and I would have loved to have been in the Old West, Al and I, we would have had a little shootout. We would have gone out on Willshire Avenue, six shooters. Now he's a much smaller target than I am, about 4'11, but he's wider and it would have been, you know, Clint Eastwood time, you know, I would have the sharout, shirapi (sp?) and I had my squint, and I would have put a bullet right between his head. Would have been wrong. Would have been wrong. But that was the Old West, and I would not have known any better, so I wouldn't have been held accountable, because I wouldn't have - but now I do. Now, in 2003, that would have been wrong." Bill O'Reilly, radio show, June 1, 2003. The wav is available here, courtesy of uggabugga.

# June 4. The Daily Trojan of USC has a brief write-up on Al Franken and Bill O'Reilly, with a tie-in to the recent FCC decision:
When asked about the effect convergence might have on coverage, Kingsley pointed out a piece she recently saw on Fox's local news. It was about a heated discussion between political commentator Bill O'Reilly, who has his own show on Fox's cable news channel, and humorist Al Franken during a recent panel discussion in Los Angeles. The piece, Kingsley said, showed only O'Reilly's comments in the argument without airing any dialogue from Franken.

"People watching didn't see Franken's side, and unless they were motivated enough to look elsewhere for coverage, they never will," she said.
# June 4. Added one transcript from Lester Holt Live, 6/2/03

# June 3. The-Hamster.com again attacks O'Reilly for two lies on his show. An excerpt:
Okey, first off, how long was the Franken speech? Go to the CSPAN.org video and you'll find out that the O'Reilly "35 minutes" quote is a white lie. Franken starts at 28:35. When O'Reilly jumps in and says, "Hey, shut up! You had your 35 minutes!" the video is at 48:45 . Now granted, O'Reilly was not a math major at Harvard, but that's only 20 minutes and 10 seconds. And O'Reilly lied about that and did not correct it. Instead, he continues the lie: "Imagine sitting next to somebody calling you a liar for that period of time." A little ironic, since O'Reilly is defending himself about lying.

Second, O'Reilly makes the claim that "This is just the second time in six-and-a-half years that someone has questioned my honestly." I'm assuming he means "honesty." Well, that's not true either. O'Reilly has had many more attacks on him than just the Wall Street Journal ... Read on ...

# June 3. CSPAN has posted the video online. Check it out.

# June 2. An mp3 of the Franken-O'Reilly segment is here from greyleonard. Right click on "save target as" to save to your desktop. I'll post a link to the video if I find one.

# June 2. Been getting some great emails from conservatives. Keep them up! Spielling, personal insults, gay innuendo and grammar is always fun. Also, did you know, according to one conservative emailer, Al didn't graduate from high school? I had no idea Harvard had such low standards in the 70s. Also, I have forwarded several hundred of your emails thanking Al for his stint on CSPAN2. Anyway, several articles have mentioned the O'Reilly exchange; The-Hamster.com has a summary and opinion.

# June 1. So who won the debate between Franken and O'Reilly? If we asked our old friend Christopher Capitalism, I think he'd have a conclusive answer:

Bill O'Reilly's book on Amazon.com as of 10pm.

Note: This is for the hardcover edition, NOT the "large print" edition. Amazon.com is just displaying other editions.

Al Franken's book on Amazon.com as of 10pm.

It was at 79 this morning. And Al's book is released a month later.
