Sheriffs and police chiefs take note!

This article is not new, it is from 1997, but it is as timely today as it was then. The first duty of the Sheriff is too protect the Liberty, not rights, of the people of the County that elected him and which he serves! I charge everyone to go to their County Clerk and read the Oath of Office and Official Bond for their Sheriff. Demand that he honors that Oath or his Official Bond will be forfeit and he WILL be removed from office!!

If you force the Sheriff to comply with the Constitution and perform his Constitutional duty, your County will be completely free of terrorism and abuse from the government!!

If you are not willing to take the necessary measures to force the elected officials to perform to their Oaths then you deserve whatever befalls you!!

Remember, you, your county and your state are Sovereign! Anything to the contrary notwithstanding!

Wyoming Sheriff Tells Feds to Stay Out; County Burned After Being Named Co-defendant in INS Brutality Case

For years, Sheriff Dave Mattis of Big Horn County, Wyoming cooperated with federal agents when they came into his county to serve warrants or seize property. That cooperation has stopped
following an incident in which agents from the Immigration and Naturalization Service were accused of using excessive force against a suspected illegal alien, and the sheriff's department was named as a co-defendant in the case.

In many instances where federal agents perform arrests, serve search warrants or the IRS goes to seize property, local police are asked to provide back-up. Officially, the local police are not involved. The usual story is that they are only there to observe in case of trouble, and federal agents tell the local cops not to interfere unless the feds ask for support.

In the Big Horn case, deputy sheriffs stood by while INS agents repeatedly struck a suspected alien with a steel flashlight. The case has now been settled out of court, with the deputies and the
sheriff's department agreeing to pay the victim $20,000 (the INS settlement amount is unknown).

According to Sheriff Mattis, the case shows that he is legally responsible for all law enforcement activities which go on in his county. Mattis has put all federal agencies on notice that they are not to perform any law enforcement activity in his county
unless he personally approves the operation in advance.

Sheriff Mattis is not rubberstamping federal activities, either. He only allows federal agents to operate on a case by case basis when they can convince the sheriff that their actions are legal
and in accordance with proper constitutional authority. Mattis has said that the INS case is only one in a long string of federal abuses, and as the highest law enforcement officer in the county it is his constitutional and moral responsibility to
protect Wyoming citizens from abuse by federal agents. "If the sheriff doesn't want the feds in his county, he has the constitutional authority and right to ask them to leave," he explains.

Local police need to be made aware that they too may be held responsible in court if they stand by while federal agents run roughshod over the constitution, not only in brutality cases but with faulty warrants or seizure of property without a proper court order. That is as it should be. It is the duty of police to protect citizens, even from their own government.

In suits like that of Big Horn County, local cops may find themselves the primary target, even when they were minor players. Lacking the resources of the feds, local governments and police may present an easier target for lawyers seeking a quick cash settlement.
