The last hour of today's radio program highlighted an episode of destruction that had been promoted by James Robison, the spiritual mentor to George W. Bush. Robison had counseled a Texas millionaire, with murder associations, to find penitence in the destruction of priceless art objects - for which a museum would have been a better home - first by smashing them, and then drowning them in a lake. A parallel to this event was drawn with that of the Taliban's destruction of the giant Buddha sculptures, "graven" into mountainsides in Afghanistan.
Discussion of barbaric and immature tendencies in unrealized religious backgrounds. Highly stimulating for the season.
I caught myself wishing my college librarian: "Oh, and have a sane holiday. There's a lot of things, going down."

The Sept. 11 Fund will spend as much as $55 million to provide mental health
care to those traumatized by the attacks on the World Trade Center and the
Pentagon. The American Red Cross is also expected to spend tens of millions
of dollars to help provide similar kinds of counseling. And the Robin Hood
Foundation has dedicated about $2 million to treat the grieving and the
distressed, including a $50,000 grant to Big Brothers Big Sisters of New
York City to aid children who lost a parent in the trade center attack or
who saw it take place.
