Also to note, the United Nations is protecting the novels, now what give
the UN any power to protect anybody novel, unless they support witchcraft

Time Warner Gets Potter Net Names

GENEVA (AP) - Time Warner Entertainment emerged the winner Thursday from
the latest hair-raising Harry Potter (news - web sites) adventure, this
time fought out in the world of cyberspace.

Time Warner, which holds the Harry Potter marketing rights, was granted
ownership of 107 Potter-related Internet domain names in a ruling by the
United Nations (news - web sites) World Intellectual Property Organization.

The names, which include

had been registered by HarperStephens, of Agoura Hills, Calif.

Time Warner told the U.N. panel it had the rights to produce merchandise
based on the four books in the Harry Potter series, the first of which is
about to be turned into a Hollywood film.

The tales of the young apprentice wizard and his friends at the Hogwarts
Schools of Wizardry and Witchcraft have been a huge hit with children
worldwide.

They brought fame and fortune to British author J.K. Rowling (news - web
sites) and prompted midnight queues at bookstores as each new adventure
was published.

Time Warner said most of the domain names at issue had been registered
within two days of news breaking last March about the forthcoming film.
The company had tried to contact HarperStephens, but received no reply.

The three-member panel said HarperStephens had also not replied to WIPO's
invitation to submit its views on the claim. None of the sites connected
to an operating Web site.

``It is difficult to discern any motive other than that of preventing the
owner of the mark from reflecting the mark in a corresponding domain name,
'' the panel said. ``The registration of over one hundred such domain names
is sufficient to constitute a pattern of conduct.''

It ruled that HarperStephens had no rights to the domain names and ordered
them transferred to Time Warner.

Anyone can register a domain name for a few dollars, which has led so-called
``cybersquatters'' to file for famous names to make a fast buck from those
who want the names, sometimes worth millions of dollars.

The U.N. system, which started last year, allows those who think they have
the real right to a domain to get it back without fighting a costly legal
battle or paying large sums of money.

In a lighthearted moment, the panel said it took special care with the
Harry Potter case because ``stories have circulated that the inspiration
for the Internet was the Owl Post system employed by wizards and students
of wizardry in the Wizarding World.''

``The system is often referred to as 'The Way of the Wizarding World'
(sometimes abbreviated in treatises of magic as the three w's or www),
and it is indeed the warp and woof of all wizard-to-wizard communication,''
it added.

Somewhere there is a list of the founders of the UN. I have not seen it
although I've seen some of the names from the list. We should not be
surprised by anything that comes out of that place. The past 8 years have
made things worse, but it is not all just liberals because many politicians
and ordinary people are involved in the mechanics of what is becoming global
domination by the use of UN peace keeping forces. How did such a misnomer
get placed on that bunch?
