Oddities in northern Idaho. Maybe these things mean nothing, but they seem very unusual to me.

Last night, I heard a car to car call on my scanner between two county sheriff's deputies, Shoshone County. One asked the other if the meeting was still on, on the top of Thompson Pass. The other responded that it was and asked what time, he responded, 20:30.

Thompson Pass is on the border of Idaho and Montana. The road drops into Thompson Falls, Montana. On the Idaho side, the nearest town is Murray, a very small town and some distance from the pass.

Why this call seemed strange is the fact that the pass is closed for the winter and there are no houses or businesses or anything in that area.

Another thing I noticed recently was on another small road which has no houses on it. It used to run from just outside of Wallace, Idaho to the top of Dobson Pass. I was driving up that road, from Wallace, and the road suddenly ended at the base of a mountain of rock which had been hauled in and dumped on the road and for some distance on both sides of the road, from up above. About 100 feet from that "roadblock", is a large concrete structure sticking out of the ground about 2 feet and it has 9 metal pipes sticking up out of it. It is right in the creek bed but by blocking the road the way they did, right at a bridge, they diverted the creek to the other side of the road.

Today, a friend called and told me that when he was on his way to work in Coeur d' Alene, he witnessed a white SUV, going east on I-90, with red and blue police lights but the only other marking was the word Ranger on the front fender.

We live in interesting times.
