"It would be impossible to cover all that all the time."The delegation toured Nogales' Mariposa Point of Entry, dedicated to commercial inspections, and afterward agreed border issues must receive more priority in Washington. The goal, they said, is to secure the border while allowing commerce to flow between both countries.McCain called the border "the last frontier" and said shoring it up will take more people and technology. He said the U.S. Border Patrol's strength in the Tucson Sector has increased from 450 agents to about 1,700 in the last few years."An increase like that is probably necessary again given the threats we face," McCain said.Convenience must improve along with security, Kolbe said."Want to stop the bad stuff but still allow people to come across and shop and visit family members," Kolbe said. The tour of the Mariposa facility, a few miles west of the Dennis DeConcini Point of entry for tourists and motorists, showcased $11 million in renovations either completed or under way.Innovations at the Mariposa Point of Entry have been copied across the border, Kolbe said."The stuff they are doing here, is the stuff they are doing now all across the border," Kolbe said. The U.S. Customs Service is using computers to measure the time needed for trucks to cross into America. They also were shown hi-tech detection devices that can pick up traces of radiation trucks carry through the inspection center. The renovations are meant to protect America and improve service, said Celia de la Ossa, chief cargo inspector of the U.S. Customs Service in Nogales."We don't want to disrupt the economy by creating long waits at the border," de la Ossa said.===================================================12/5/02Hi Glenn,Great to see the webcam up and running [see feature on this from California's American Patrol]. I followed your coverage and then watched the news just now to listen to the Politicos try to stroke the public with their "concern" etc. Of particular interest was Grijalva's not-so-veiled threat to anyone other than Border Patrol watching the border. Grijalva is a Mexican first, then Democrat/Liberal...I'm not sure where American plays into his agenda. The border is a mess, Mexico is exporting its problems North, Politicians are looking out for themselves (re-election) first and paying lip-service to the problems we are living with every day. While highly skilled doctors, scientists and professors from European countries are standing in line, playing by the rules, to legally immigrate into this country the unskilled Mexican criminals, here illegally, jump to the front of the line because of failed enforcement policies. All because, instead of an ocean they have an un-patrolled border as the only deterrence. And we are being scolded by corrupt politicians if we say "enough".If you fly an airplane North, cross the border without a flight plan and/or land anywhere except an official port of entry airport you will have the full force of the U.S. Government after you. Jump a fence and hike North and folks put water out for you and offer you a job?! Am I missing something here?I suggest the creation of a ground-based ADIZ....call it a National Defense Identification Zone...like a buffer zone. Property owners on the border wouldn't be aware of the change except the presence of the Military patrolling the area and some large fences.....all of which they would welcome with open arms.Whenever an illegal is apprehended, treated at a medical facility or housed awaiting deportation all associated costs should be billed to the U.S. State Department. Whenever financial aid is sent to the host countries of these illegals the costs would come right off the top. Mexico would end up owing us money every year. Oh well...it's a nice thought.Great job today...keep up the good work.Gregg H.http://www.americanborderpatrol.com/LETTERS/GH-WebcamDGL-021205.htmlAmerican Border Patrol2160 East Fry Boulevard, Suite 426Sierra Vista, Arizona 85635Phone (520) 803-7703 - Fax (520) 803-7730Toll Free -- (800) 600-8642E-mail: Info@americanborderpatrol.com What exactly is a "Republican Form" of government?
