(Phoenix, AZ) December 1, 2004 – Phoenix radio station 1010 TALK KXXT today announced the hiring of popular Phoenix personality Charles Goyette as host of its new morning drive talk show. Goyette’s new 7 – 10 am weekday morning show begins Monday, December 6.
“We looked for the most independent and outspoken talk show host we could find to anchor our new station,” said Bob Christy, KXXT General Manager. “We were pleased to find him right here in Phoenix. Charles’s principled opposition to the Iraqi war has not only been vindicated by subsequent events, but it has put him on the map nationally. We are both glad we could reach an agreement to keep providing Phoenix radio listener’s with more ‘fearless talk radio!’ “
Goyette’s resume includes stints with KTAR and recently several years as host of Clear Channel’s KFYI afternoon drive program. His differences with Clear Channel over his objections to the Iraq war spilled out into the public with the publication of an article by Goyette called “How to Lose Your Job in Talk Radio” in the American Conservative magazine a year ago. Since then Goyette has been sought out for his views on the war and the media by journalists and broadcasters across the country and around the world. He will be featured in an upcoming segment on the PBS show “NOW with Bill Moyers.”
In addition to his opposition to the war in Iraq, Goyette is well-known to Arizona listeners for leading the charge against the Cardinal’s football stadium location near the runways of Sky Harbor International Airport, taking on “America’s Toughest Sheriff,” Joe Arpaio over the potty-cams in the women’s jail, and battling Qwest Communications over what many customers believed was misuse of their private records and phone numbers.
“I’m delighted to be the new morning show host on 1010 TALK KXXT,” said Goyette. “The recklessness and instability of Bush’s foreign policy are only exceeded by his fiscal irresponsibility. 1010 TALK KXXT will become the ‘go to’ spot on the dial as people begin to recognize the unhappy consequences of both.”
“Charles will serve as a great lead-in to the rest of our provocative line-up,” said Christy. “He’ll be followed at 10 am by best-selling author, satirist, and Saturday Night Live veteran Al Franken from Air America. Next it’s Ed Schultz daily from 1 – 3 pm with straight talk from America’s heartland, and Air America’s hard-hitting Randi Rhodes tears up the airwaves for us in the afternoons from 3 – 7 pm.
