There are about 50 million people between the ages of 19 and 50. The military would probably take no more than 200,000 at the most. They are talking about needing 20,000. So that leaves 49.8 million, maybe 49.98 million people who will not go to the war.

Are you talking about training and outfitting 50 million people? If not, then why are you saying the draft would be more fair? You'd still have a small handful of people going, and a whole bunch of people who aren't. The only difference is that instead of trying to make the military a good option for some people, it becomes a bad option for all people except the gung-ho pro-military people.

Since the draft boards will pick and choose who goes, we can assume the military, political, and economic elite's children will be put in cushy, career-enhancing jobs in nice places. You won't see the Bush girls doing house-to-house searches in Baghdad!

The poor, who would still be the ones to go, would NOT be getting their signing bonuses. The pay and working conditions would be a lot worse.

Plus, protestors would be the first to go. This is a great way to end those pesky protestors. No one in the military is allowed to protest. No one gets Constitutional rights. Everyone is subject to the Uniform Code of Military Justice. If they tell you to go in and clean up the depleted uranium, you gotta go. They tell you to line for medical experimentation, you line up.

It's a lose-lost situation for everyone except the Neo-Cons who want to invade and control the middle east, and they want US to do it for them.

The only way the neo-cons can sustain and expand this war is if they have a draft.

The draft is absolutely necessary if they are to continue the war, and that is why they are now talking about it.

The Democrats ran a candidate on the peace platform, and then started WWI, WWII, and the Vietnam war. Technically, Eisenhower got us into French INdo-China, but it was Johnson, who ran on the peace platform against Goldwater, who changed our position from 3000 American advisors to half a million troops on the ground in southeast Asia.

The same thing is happening now. The Dems will be brought in to bring in the draft, and expand the war.
