Koa Books, Start-up Publisher on Maui, to Release New
Book by Cindy Sheehan, "Not One More Mother's Child"
Cindy Sheehan lost her son, Army Specialist Casey Austin
Sheehan, in an ambush in Sadr City, Baghdad, on April 4,
2004. As information became available that the war in
Iraq was based on lies and "cooked intelligence," she
began speaking out and testifying in the halls of
Congress. In August 2005, she went to Crawford, Texas,
to confront President Bush, and the floodgates of a
renewed American peace movement were opened.
Cindy Sheehan is a moving writer and vibrant
storyteller. During her first year of activism, she
chronicled her thoughts and actions, and now she shares
them for the first time in book form. Reflecting on war
and peace, truth and accountability, she takes the Bush
administration to task for its corruption and
incompetence and tells the story of her own journey from
grieving mom to activist. Cindy Sheehan continues to
speak out against the war, continuing her efforts to
bring the troops home.

Excerpts from war protester Cindy Sheehan's book
Associated Press
FORT WORTH, Texas - Here are some excerpts from the book
"Not One More Mother's Child" written by Cindy Sheehan,
the fallen U.S. soldier's mother who drew thousands to
her 26-day war protest near President Bush's Crawford
ranch in August. The book published by Koa Books is to
be released Wednesday.
_ On her grief:
"For many nights after Casey was killed and we buried
him, I had to restrain myself from swallowing my entire
bottle of sleeping pills. The pain and the deep pit of
hopelessness and despair were almost more than I could
cope with. ... The only thing that restrained me from
committing the cowardly and selfish act of killing
myself was my other three children."
_ On the war:
"I am even more convinced now that this aggression on
Iraq was based on a lie of historic proportions and was
blatantly unnecessary. ... The leadership of this
country rushed us into an illegal invasion of another
sovereign country on prefabricated and cherry-picked
intelligence."
_ On her critics:
"I guess the truth frightens people. It frightens them
so much, they have to resort to telling lies to rebut my
arguments. ... The people who are slamming me have no
idea about what it feels like to unjustly have a child
killed in an insane war."
_ On her "almost icon status:"
"I never set out to become the `Rosa Parks of the peace
movement.' I ventured out on August 6, 2005, to hold
George Bush accountable and to raise awareness about his
lies and misuse and abuse of power. I didn't set out to
become anyone's hero. I am a regular mom who just wants
peace and no one else to be murdered for the deceptions
of our government."
_ On the protest:
"I've come to Crawford to bring to the president's
doorstep the harsh realities of a war he's been trying
so hard to avoid. ... American citizens who oppose the
war but never had a conduit for their disgust and dismay
are dropping everything and traveling to Crawford to
stand in solidarity with us. ... This is George Bush's
accountability moment, and he is failing miserably."
