Winston SmithADL Releases Phony SurveyFri Nov 2 18:39:22 2001ADL Releases Phony Survey Questions, Changes in Measurement "Prove" Support For Israel Is Strong, Anti-Semitism Is DecliningNew York, NY -- The ADL released a phony poll today rigged to show that "anti-Semitism" in the US is decreasing and that American do not blame Israel for the 9-11 attacks.Despite overwhelming influence to the contrary, including a poll showing that as many as 58% of Americans think the US-Israeli relationship was the cause of the 9-11 attacks, the ADL claims that only 22% of Americans think so after asking the deceptive question: "Do you believe the attack would not have occurred if the U.S. were not such a close ally of Israel?" rather than "Do you believe the US relationship with Israel contributed to the attack?" -- the quesiton asked in the Reuters Israel poll that was eventually printed in Newsweek. The ADL also used its ridiculous and flawed measure of "anti-Semitism" to claim that "anti-Semitism" has declined to a point where "only 25%" of Americans are anti-Semitic. The ADL has, over the past twenty years, slowly raised the criteria by which "anti-Semitism" is judged, after it was revealed that its poll was measuring only Americans with prejudicial attitudes towards Jews, whether those attitudes were positive or negative. The criteria has changed from four "yes" answers to a series of questions twenty years ago to either five or six "yes" answers, depending on the year.Lastly, the most telling result of the poll was, according tot he ADL press release:"Seventy percent (70%) of Americans said that the U.S. should take neither the Israeli nor the Palestinian side in the dispute. Nineteen percent (19%) said that America should take Israel's side, and 1 percent take the Palestinian side."That result was astonishing given that the US media has reported that as many as 45% of Americans think we should take Israel's side in the dispute -- a number that is often generated through dishonest polling methods. For instance, the American Jewish Committee earlier this year conducted a 1400 person poll of "Americans", mentioning only in the fine print that the "Americans" were "600 randomly selected Americans, 400 American Jews, and 400 American 'opinion leaders' (reporters and politicians)." Not surprisingly, the poll found that about 8/14ths of the "Americans" supported Israel.
