I'm not popular here because I have criticised the moderator - ooh, bad dog, no cookie. So let's see if he lets this get through. I was surprised to find PW's comment here. PW brings up very good points that I can't debate - let me add another point however:

By fighting this fight you folks are allowing the government exact a stronger role in our lives. Stronger role = more intervention. Terri married a man who is her husband. Her brain died (or the part of it that mattered). He is her SOLE caretaker. Were I in her place, I would want to be UNPLUGGED from the damn machine that was keeping me alive. I wonder what Terri would say to you folks were she able.

Perhaps she would say:

You folks fighting this fight - think about what you are doing. Government does not need another reason to mess with your life. It does not need another statute to prove that it has bearing over your life, whether it is worth living or not. We need less government - isn't that what we have all been fighting for? Now, say a little prayer for me because I'm long gone. And then go home and enjoy your life.
