George-Erich StroudThe Non-existent Black ConservativeSun Oct 26 09:35:03 2003162.84.224.182The Non-Existent Black ConservativeCandace ColemanUncle Tom, Oreo, Sell-out, Anti-Black - These are just some of the epithets used by the liberal African American community to ostracize blacks who happen to be conservative.Blacks, whom most are Liberals, refer to Black Conservatives as "Black Bashers" or people who belittle the "plight" of the black community. Sometimes people act like black conservatism is some kind of an oxymoron. But is it possible; can black people really be Republicans? The truth is blacks were Republicans historically. The Republican Party was founded on equal principle, including equal justice; equal opportunity for all, regardless of race, creed, age, sex or national origin. On the contrary, The Democratic Party fought against equalization in the beginning, and was known as the party of Jim Crow (Jim Crow laws are legal law calling for apartheid in the south) and Segregation. By necessity, Blacks had to be staunch Republicans to push for equality. The first locally elected blacks were Republicans, but now over 88% of registered black voters vote Democratic. It's ironic that the Democratic Party is the party of "equality" even though one of the most powerful Democratic senators (Robert Byrd) in the United States is a former Ku Klux Klan member. Neo-Republicans or Reagan Republicans are forming the grounds for a "color- blind" based society, a major reason why blacks should align with this new "Lincoln type" Republican party. Black conservatives should be the new voice for the black community especially when progress is needed, but too many times are overshadowed by white and black liberals. The truth is, black liberals not only hide, but lie about the truth about issues concerning the black community. Charles Ogletree, Professor at Harvard Law School, and prominent black intellectual believes one of the greatest problems in the black community is the "War on Racial Profiling." The biggest problem in the black community is illegitimacy or simply kids having kids. In 1994, The National Center for Health Statistics found that 70 percent of black children were born outside of wedlock compared to 31 percent for all races. Studies show that most African- American children that grow up in these "broken homes" are more likely to drop out of school, engage in drugs or other promiscuous acts if there are two parents within the home. I can't remember the last time I saw prominent black "leaders" like Al Sharpton and Jesse Jackson protesting poor education or broken families inside the black community. (Which essentially are the real problems). Why is it that Al Sharpton and Jesse Jackson can gather 500 people in Inglewood to protest police brutality, but have failed to assemble the same amount of people to protest dead-beat dads or poor schools in urban areas? These so-called "leaders" in the black community have been spending decades of their lifetime building a lucrative career on the backs of poor black Americans. Minutes after the Inglewood beating, Civil Rights "leader" Al Sharpton was committed to leaving his New York home en-route to Inglewood in hopes of holding a civil rights rally. Few showed up, including those with Socialist leanings, and the "No Justice, No Peace" crowd. It's unfortunate that such an event could cause such an uproar that would "disturb" an entire community. On the contrary, conservative columnists, intellectuals, and authors such as Larry Elder, Thomas Sowell, John McWhorter continue to create rational reasoning to better their communities instead of protesting the same kind of "racism" that was already defeated 38 years ago. Remember the Civil Rights Act of 1964- guess not. Black Conservatives are actually thinking while most black liberals are shouting out racism to any act that is not in favor of a person of color. It's ironic that 85 % of interracial crimes are committed by blacks against whites, but when that 15% of whites commits a crime against blacks, it's considered a hate crime. Rational- I don't think so. Black liberals choose to shun the black conservatives who would like to engage in productive debates instead of screaming bigot, bigot, bigot when an injustice occurs. Please stop whining about the system, and how the "white man is holding you down." Many individuals who happen to be black have made it without being "victimized." Both black and white liberals ignite the real victimization that is truly holding backs back. Time and time again, the black conservative voice has been shunned from sharing their views on certain issues in the black community. Liberals have continued to isolate conservative voices, and thus have created a community with homogeneous ideological views. The Reverend Jesse Lee Peterson, creator of the Brotherhood Organization of a New Destiny, recently came out on a conservative front opposing reparations for black slaves. At a debate held by the National Association of Black Journalists, Peterson was regarded as "a self-hating black man who despises black culture and worships the altar of whiteness," said Michael Eric Dyson a professor at the University of Pennsylvania. The problem with this confrontation is that "black on black" of racism occurs all the time. The president of the NAACP, Julian Bond, came out and said black Republicans are "ventriloquist dummies" [of the white man]. When Dr. Glenn Loury former black conservative and current college professor gave a speech at Vassar College in a no-standing room auditorium, black students literally turned their chairs in the other direction away from Dr. Loury protesting the "lack" of his "blackness." This is no match for the black conservatives/Republicans that have been depicted negatively in black magazines such as Ebony. United States Supreme Court Justice Clarence Thomas has never made the cover on Ebony. Black liberals have heckled Thomas, rejected him, and even ostracized him from the black community itself simply because he is conservative. Harry Belafonte, a year ago referred to Condoleezza Rice and Colin Powell as "house slaves," because they work for a conservative president. Black conservatives have continued to support school vouchers, faith-based initiatives, and the privatization of social security- issues that would greatly benefit the black community. Ironically, these issues that don't sit well with most on the Left, but with the help of white liberals, black Democrats have managed to hide the notion of the black conservative fearing they would attack their liberal agenda. Without the black vote, the Democratic Party would not fare well in future elections. Democrats fear that if the non-existent black conservative is exposed, they will then be the group that is non-existent. http://weholdthesetruths.org/politics/Articles/nonexistent.htm Never Again by Sara Levy David Ha'ivri, Sun Oct 26 15:04
