Lies about the Militia refuted
Wed Oct 17 11:20:25 2001

Below is a letter i sent to the editor of "The Herald" after reading the article in ghosts post "Backwoods Militias
Suspected~Biowar Threat". If, in the unlikely event i get a reply, i will post it here.
(I made a new post as i was afraid it would get lost in the shuffle ;) Dear Editor, I recently read your "news" report
entitled "Backwoods militias suspected of being behind biowar threat". I was rather surprised at the generalizations
and lack of documentation contained therein. I have included some examples of misleading statements and out-right
fabrications contained in the above mentioned article. Although I don't expect it, I would certainly appreciate a reply to
at least explain the reasons for such exaggerations. So, without further ado, on to the refutation: 1) In the opening
statement, the writer uses the word "illegal" to describe the Militia movement. This is, of course, un-true. Below is an
excerpt from the Indiana state constitution. Notice how ALL PERSONS over the ages of 17 are included in the militia:
Article 12
Section 1. A militia shall be provided and shall consist of all persons over the age of
seventeen (17) years, except those persons who may be exempted by the laws of the United States or of this state. The
militia may be divided into active and inactive
classes and consist of such military organizations as may be provided by law. I would be interested in knowing how
the writer came to the conclusion that militias are illegal. Do you think if they were illegal, they would be tolerated? 2)
In the second paragraph, the writer tries to associate the Militia movement with Timothy McVeigh. If you take the time
to review the case against TMV, you will see that the Fed.Gov. absolved the various militias of any wrong doing early
on in the investigation. In fact, the Michigan Militia was very cooperative with the FBI in their investigation, and most
Militias jumped at the chance to dis-associate themselves from this cowardly act of terrorism. Don't you think that if
there was any evidence tying the militias to this act, they would have been charged and prosecuted? To this date, TMV
and Terry Nichols were and are the only two individuals charged directly in this crime. Militias in this country have
always been state organizations. Each state has a LEGITIMATE Constitutional Militia. The "National Alliance" is not a
Constitutional Militia. The name says it all. By nature a Militia cannot be a national organization. The National Alliance
is a racist organization, with ties to nazi skinheads, not Constitutional Militias. 3) In the third paragraph, the writer
continues by making a vague accusation worded as follows:
"Others have threatened to use biological weapons, including Anthrax, botulism, and ricin, in their struggle…"(snip).
Which others sir? 4) Next, the writer describes the typical member as being " …disaffected right-wing Christian
radicals…". This is a fallacy, pure and simple. As you can see, by reading the Constitution(s) (of both the individual
states and the United states), a Constitutional militia is open to all races and religions. 5) In paragraph 5, the writer
accuses the various Militias of using explosives. Certain explosives are legal (ie: fireworks), and as a result, there is NO
PROHIBITION against their use. If the writer is making specific allegations, alleging specific groups use of ILLEGAL
EXPLOSIVES, then by all means, report them to the authorities! If there is no evidence, then make no accusations. 6)
Continuing with paragraph six, we find more manufactured text. To my knowledge, Pat Robertson has never associated
himself with the militia movement. If you have a source for this statement, please refer to it in your reply. As far as the
other groups mentioned, as I have stated above, THEY ARE NOT CONSTITUTIONAL MILITIAS, but rather gangs of
criminals and thugs who belong behind bars. As a matter of fact, the vast majority of the membership of the ayran
nations are currently behind bars. 7) In paragraph 7, the writer alleges "links" with the NRA. What sort of links pray tell?
Do you mean that they subscribe to NRA publications? Do you mean they are members of the NRA? Imagine that! Rifle
owners joining a club for people who own rifles! Here, by proxy, the writer implicates upwards of 90,000,000 (LEGAL
gun owners) law abiding Americans with the likes of Aryan nations! What do any of the things mentioned in paragraph
7 have to do with biological warfare? (by the way it's "the right to keep and bear arms"). 8) As for paragraph 8, I will
refer you to AG Ashcrofts recent statements AFFIRMING the INDIVIDUAL right to keep and bear arms. (Do a word
search for "AG Ashcroft" at www.worldnetdaily.com  , and I'm sure you will find it). I would be happy to provide
voluminous data to refute this dis-information. 9) Paragraph 9 is the worst example of either grossly mis-informed
opinion, or worse, INTENTIONAL liable / slander against the movement. All of the Militia groups I have had the
pleasure to associate with have not, nor EVER will advocate racism. The writer does not mention names of specific
groups for obvious reasons. I challenge him to produce an example of racist doctrine emanating from a
CONSTITUTIONAL MILITIA, after all, ALL MEN were created EQUAL in the eyes of God!!!!! 10) Paragraph 10: More out
and out lies and hear-say. Refer to section 3 above. 11) In paragraph 12, when the writer should be shoring up his
thesis, he is instead offering a variable "Swiss cheese" of groundless accusations. Again, the writer shies away from
mentioning specific names for obvious reasons (he could not prove a lick of it). Again, which groups and which
specific instances? This is not news reporting, this is PROPAGANDA! Poor propaganda at that, because it has 0%
basis in truth. 12) Finally, our tour of this pretend news article is at an end. In the last paragraph, the writer includes a
quote associated to no-one. Is he playing a trick on the reader, to get them to assume the "FBI source" (probably the
FBI cleaning lady) is implicating Militia groups in the recent Anthrax epidemic? What a farce. If you have the courage,
and journalistic integrity to provide a reply, I would be MOST appreciative. Thank you Sir, have a good day! Qwibqwib
