CITIZEN PETITION FILED YESTERDAY AT THE FDA: ANTHRAX VACCINE NETWORK
SUPPORTS PETITION, CALLS ON PRESIDENT BUSH TO CORRECT PROBLEMS CAUSED BY THE
ANTHRAX VACCINE

MISSOULA, MONTANA: In a private action, a citizen petition was filed with
the FDA yesterday morning regarding BioPort, the Lansing, Michigan firm
which manufactures the anthrax vaccine. The petition calls for the FDA to
issue a Final Rule on the drug category placement of anthrax vaccine as
Category II (unsafe, ineffective, or misbranded); to declare as adulterated
all stockpiles of anthrax vaccine adsorbed in the possession of BioPort
Corporation and all doses in private, public, U.S. or foreign government
possession; to enforce its own Agency policies and provisions with respect
to the anthrax vaccine, and with respect to the contracts inappropriately
granted; and to revoke the anthrax vaccine adsorbed license (license #1260)
held by BioPort Corporation. The full petition may be viewed online at

In a tandem move, the national Anthrax Vaccine Network has issued a formal
letter to President George Bush requesting that he uphold the rule of law
and take immediate action to establish for military members and government
employees a presumptive line of duty (LOD) injury for certain medical
conditions resulting from the anthrax vaccine and to provide long-term,
adequate medical care and disability payments for any Servicemember who has
fallen ill due to the Anthrax Vaccine Immunization Program (A.V.I.P.); to
reverse, rescind and return, without qualification, all punishments, fines
and garnished pay and allowances for any military member or government
employee, resulting from concerns about the A.V.I.P., and to offer
reinstatement into the Armed Services to any Servicemember discharged for
refusal to comply with the A.V.I.P.; and to deal directly and immediately
with the citizen petition to the FDA. For the docket number, please check
