JamesAgree but...Fri Oct 18 13:29:14 2002199.208.172.36I don't believe the distance involved in these shooting should be used to determine the skill level of the shooter. Granted, hitting a victim from a distance of 100 to 150 yards out may not be a significant physical achievement. And yes, this may be a basic skill that can be easily acquired. But there are several other factors that I believe have greater authority. First, the layout of the terrain may preclude a shot from a great distance. You may respond with, well, why can't he find an open area that would permit a shot from 700 or so yards? Well, a shot from that distance just about ensures that a qualified sniper made the kill, thus reducing the state of confusion the police are currently experiencing by placing limits on possible suspects. Just about anybody with basic gun experience can hit a target at 100 yards, but only a few people can hit a target at 700 yards. A crafty criminal tries to maximize the list of possible suspects. Second, I believe the most important aspect of this crime, the portion that requires the most skill, is the getaway. I believe the planning and attention of the shooter or shooters is primarily focused on this aspect. I believe the spots chosen have excellent escape routes and have terrain layouts that facilitate stealth operations. Just my two cents worth. However, I do not agree with Sollog's theory.
