Cheryl SealCitizens Database Must be CreatedWed Oct 5, 2005 12:56205.188.117.6
The ONLY WAY that the truth about the number of casualties will be revealed is for a central citizens database to be created (and NOT thru the government). At present, it would be very, very easy for the death count to be manipulated because there's no real oversight and the process is so fragmented it makes it easy for the "right hand not to tell the left hand" what its doing, so to speak. When someone knows a family member has died or remains missing, they assume that that family member is one of the X number of dead and missing reported by the Feds. These people would never know that the overall number reported was 10 times too low.
A mainstream media outlet such as NBC or CBS could quite easily create a special reporting center and database (with phone number, address and email contact) where people could report both confirmed dead or still missing friends or famil. The real figures would soon take shape. Duplicate names could be eliminated easily by computerized cross referencing. Alas, I get the impression that the TV networks are sliding back into "business as usual" or should we say Bushiness as usual. I don't see them doing anything as unselfish and public-spirited as this. They'd rather concentrate on "touchy feely" stories that play well and don't challenge the Bush regime - like the adorable 10-year-old boy interviewed in New Orleans by Campbell Brown and other reporters. This story is getting tons of ongoing coverage while body recovery is now barely a footnote with the networks.
I was told by an National Guardsman from Florida who asked not to be named that when he participated in the clean up after Hurricane Andrew that there was a huge body count coverup during that event, too. Andrew, of course, hit in August 1992 as Bush I was running for reelection. Many soldiers returning from Iraq have also said that they believe the death toll there among US troops is being hidden. The only deaths reported are those killed in roadside bombings or firefights that were witnessed by enough observers to make hiding the facts impossible. But we never hear of the deaths from illness, infection, suicide (and the rate is high), murder (not every soldier is killed by a roadside bomb - some have killed in knifings, brawls, etc.). Also scaled back is the number of casualties. I was told some time ago and I doubt that the situation is different now, that only soldiers injured in combat situations are reported as casualties - casualties due to illness, psychiatric distress, infection, etc. are not "officially" listed, and they constitute the majority airlifted out of the war zone according to reports of medical personnel working evacuation operations.
For whatever reason, Bush I and Bush II seem to believe that it is an important part of "image maintenance" to keep body counts low. Sick.
