speculation about motive at this point is not much more than mental masturbation, because whatever the motive, these folks decided it was ok to break a federal law to act on it.
that being said, this version, as opposed to the revenge motive, still does not hold up for at least the reason that Rove is so notorious for his vindictive streak. Besides, how would we really pull these two motives apart? It seems the deed does double duty, and the overarching purpose of the administration is to control the CIA.
therefore, if the administration is floating this balloon to take the edge off the revenge theory, it will inevitably backfire.
all in all, you have to start keeping track of all the various defenses getting airplay as an indication of just how out of control desperate these bozos are.
