The illegal disclosure came a week after theemployee's husband, former Iraq Ambassador JosephWilson, publicly challenged the claim byPresident Bush that Iraq had tried to obtainuranium from Niger, a claim now known to havebeen false."Only an independent prosecutor can investigatethis case, because of the conflict of interestinvolving Attorney General John Ashcroft," saidMark Dunlea, chair of the Green Party of New YorkState. "Ambassador Wilson says that he believesthat Bush advisor Karl Rove was involved in theleak. Mr. Rove has previously been employed byAshcroft in his political campaigns for Governorand for U.S. Senator."Greens have also called for an independentprosecutor to investigate the White House's rolein ordering the EPA to issue false statementsabout air quality near World Trade Center site inNew York City shortly after the 9/11 attacks, andwhether President Bush, Vice-President Cheney andother administration officials lied to Congress, the American people, and the United Nations aboutthe reasons for invading Iraq. Greens noted that the two major parties have beeninconsistent in their support for the appointmentof independent special prosecutors in times ofscandal."We have a crisis of democracy in America," saidJake Schneider, treasurer of the Green Party ofthe United States. "The allegations of deceitand illegal behavior by leading members of theBush administration are so numerous, from 9/11 toinsider trading by Bush and Cheney to falseinformation about weapons of mass destruction, that we need an independent prosecutor to holdthese officials accountable and help restoretrust in our government. Americans deserve tosee wider probe of Iraq deceit, not just the nameleak."MORE INFORMATIONThe Green Party of the United States http://www.gp.org 1700 Connecticut Avenue NW, Suite 404Washington, DC 20009. 202-319-7191, 866-41GREENFax 202-319-7193Greens Call for Impeachment of Bush http://www.gp.org/press/pr_07_21_03.html - END - LEAKGATE - PART I Robert Sterling, Fri Oct 3 15:41 LEAKGATE - PART II Robert Sterling, Fri Oct 3 15:45 LEAKGATE - WHO LEAKED?
