William Rivers Pitt | Swiftboating the Swiftboaters
William Rivers Pitt writes: "He [Kerry] did not adequately respond to a series of devastating TV ads by Swift Boat Veterans for the Truth, a group that questioned Kerry's service in Vietnam and criticized his later opposition to the war. 'They had money behind the lies, and we did not have sufficient money behind the truth,' Kerry laments."

The US military is likely to maintain and may even increase its force of more than 140,000 troops in Iraq through next spring. Mike Davis | Border Invaders: The Perfect Swarm Heads South
Mike Davis writes: "The visitor crossing from Tijuana to San Diego these days is immediately slapped in the face by a huge billboard screaming, 'Stop the Border Invasion!' Sponsored by the rabidly anti-immigrant vigilante group, the Minutemen, the same truculent slogan reportedly insults the public at other border crossings in Arizona and Texas."

Dean Baker | Takings: The Conservative Nanny State Only Gives
Dean Baker writes: "Many conservatives like to frame political debates as being a battle between tough-minded individualists, who want the government out of their life, and welfare-state liberals who run to the government at every turn. This framing is completely wrong - conservatives like the government every bit as much as liberals - but it is widely accepted by the media and even most of the liberals who pass as political leaders."

Anti-Government Protests in Hungary Turn Violent
Protesters in Budapest clashed with police and stormed the headquarters of state television early Tuesday, responding with violence to a leaked recording that caught the Hungarian prime minister admitting the government "lied morning, evening and night" about the economy.

VIDEO | Keith Olbermann: Bush Owes Us an Apology
Keith Olbermann: "There needs to be an apology from the President of the United States. And more than one. But, Mr. Bush, the others - for warnings unheeded five years ago, for war unjustified four years ago, for battle unprepared three years ago - they are not weighted with the urgency and necessity of this one. We must know that, to you, thought with which you disagree - and even voice with which you disagree and even action with which you disagree - are still sacrosanct to you."

VIDEO | Princeton Scientists Create Vote-Stealing Program for Diebold AccuVote-TS
A paper (and accompanying video) published by a group of Princeton computer scientists said that they created demonstration vote-stealing software that can be installed within a minute on a common electronic voting machine. The software can fraudulently change vote counts without being detected.
