You know why people did not get enraged. 1. people in this very spread out and large country, don't have the full truth, 2. most people can not possibly know how bad it is from pictures. 3. there is a certain amount of insensitivity from years of boob tube indoctrination and desensitization to trauma, violence, crime, etc. 4. sense of community is no longer developed. But what you have not faced yet, Judy, is why were those poor old people abandoned to a geriatric warehouse, to begin with. What kind of culture throws its elderly away? Yes, I know all the "reasons" people say they do it. But let's get to the bottom line. Just blaming the government or the population at large does not get to the main point here. Senior citizens are not valued in our society and they are an inconvenience. Let someone else take care of them and let government pay for it.
Their condition is about to get much much worse. In this day especially, of dwindling government resources and exhausted or much minimized pension plans, due to business collapse or corruption, and/or large government cut backs, in this day where competition for the remaining jobs is stiff between the young and old, where class warfare raises its sinister head, senior citizens will be valued even less. In fact, they will be or are now, considered a burden. As the wasting and dying of the old, the frail, the poor, spreads due to attrition, people will have to see through the lie of "compassionate and civilized democracy", etc. Bottom line. ac

Really – well not for these seniors, the most helpless in our society, who COULDN’T walk, out or drive out of New Orleans, to a distant Hilton! Bush was delivering a cake to McCain- golfing –doing the VJ day gig – and looking down, from Air Force One, as these folks drowned – “We’re coming Moma –we’re coming”. Sometimes I have to stop writing and just cry - ! Condi was playing tennis, shopping for $1000 footwear, and attending a comedy on the Holy Grail. Cheney went fishing in Jackson Hole – lounged around his trophy home, while Lynn – shopped for a 10 acre estate on Chesapeake Bay, what with all the loot they’re taking in. Nobody heard the seniors crying – nor the depraved – criminal – negligence. “We’re coming Momma “ . Nobody came but the President is going to find out what went right and what went wrong. The Black Shepherds and Black Caucus –as useless as the rest of them, are going to start their race – baiting game---- which is all they’re good for. Well it’s too late, they’re dead, thousands and thousands of people. Ha, and we’re going to rebuild Iraq – we can’t even maintain a levee - nor rescue some old folks – what a joke. JM
