I would like to ad some comments which can be verified by watching videos of the then interviews with the admiral in charge who appeared with the Chairman of The NTSB during Q&A. concerning the probability of a missile having caused the shoot down of TWA 800. The reporter commented that eye witnesses had reported seeing what they believed to be a missile spiraling as it approached the 747. The Chairman of the NTSB deferred the question to the admiral, who responded by saying that there was no missile known to him that would spiral before hitting a target. The reporter then said words to the effect, "Is it possible there may be some weapon you are not aware of?" The admiral responded by saying, "I am an admiral in the most powerful navy in the world. If there were such a missile I would know about it."

I was a fan of the Discovery program Wings. During the period during which TWA 800 was shot down, I had watched a Discovery Wings program, a Former USSR Air Force training video dating back the early seventies according to the narrator in which a remote controlled obsolete Soviet fighter was attacked from behind by a newer manned active fighter. The narrator commented that because the Soviet missile were so unreliable, their tactic was to fire two missiles at each target. The attack aircraft fired the first missile which entered the tail pipe and exploded causing the flight path of the aircraft to degrade very rapidly . The aircraft was literally blown in two with the tail raised upwards by the force of the explosion. As the second missile approached the aircraft, the flight path was degrading very rapidly. The second missile began spiraling just rearward of the target aircraft in an effort to lose closing speed. It lost considerable speed before finally exploding and destroying the drone. Well,, I had seen this video just before the admiral made his comment, I knew immediately he was lying. There were several such, thrust vectoring missiles in our inventory and those of most major powers. During the same time, I knew a former US Air Force officer, who though not a flight crew member, was familiar with weapons systems. He gave me an official defense procurement magazine in which there were advertisements intended for procurement brass, in which there appeared a vectored thrust missile firing from an F-16. The ad specifically touted the missile's ability to hit targets regardless of target maneuverability or speed from any attack angle because of it's thrust vectoring capability. So either this admiral was in the dark about weapons that were in the procurement pipeline or he was an outright liar. All of what I said here can be verified. George Rivera
