Golan Cipel Flubbed Rabin Assassination Tip?

On Monday 27 November 1995, 22 days after the assassination of Israeli Prime Minister Yitzhak Rabin, I phoned the Israeli Mission to the United Nations here in New York City. I told the receptionist that I had some information that might be useful in tracking down the perpetrators of this crime. I was switched to none other than Mr. Golan Cipel, who is now so prominent in the news after having helped New Jersey Governor Michael McGreevey resign.

Back on 27 November 1995 I told Golan Cipel that a regularly featured columnist for the right wing weekly Brooklyn newspaper, The Jewish Press, had incited for the violent overthrow of the Rabin government in the 1 November 1995 issue, which was on the news-stands in New York and Jerusalem the day Rabin died. The author, Professor Paul Eidelberg, is a Professor at Bar Ilan University which the alleged assassin attended. He was on sabbatical at the time of the assassination and touring the United States; yet the editors had nevertheless removed his column's masthead attribution "Professor Bar Ilan University" several weeks before the assassination, I later learned. Eidelberg's 1 November 1995 article mentioned unnamed prominent Zionists who also held his conviction that Rabin must go even if violent force had to be used.

Eidelberg's article clearly crossed a red line and is unlawful. I cited the findings of Judges Laval, Parker and Newman of the 2nd Circuit Court of Appeals in the case of the blind sheikh, Omar Abdul Rahman, which say (I here paraphrase) that words which instruct, persuade or urge others to commit violence are actionable under the law.

Following our talk I mailed a copy of this Eidelberg article to Golan Cipel at the Israeli Mission to the United Nations, but never heard back from him or anybody else.

Years later, in 2004, I still believe that this Professor Paul Eidelberg should be carefully examined and interrogated by criminal investigators who might be able to obtain from him information on the conspirators who killed Rabin and covered up the matter.

Golan Cipel was no help in the matter. Now, a decade later, I wonder how he made the jump from the Israeli Mission at the United Nations in New York City to top law enforcement official in New Jersey. Seems to me he was following in the footsteps of an FBI agent who let the 1993 World Trade Center sting operaton get out of control then wound up heading New Jersey's state troopers (but I forget the chap's name; Dunston? Dunbar?).

Finally, I opine that the Eidelberg angle to the Rabin assassination has been suppressed so as to avoid embarrassment for New York Governor George Pataki and former New York City Mayor Rudolf Guiliani, both of whom were contributors to the rabid right wing Jewish Press. Some of Giuliani's articles would appear on the same page as Meir Kahane's before Kahane's organization was ruled illegal.
