HOW THE UN RESOLUTION SHOULD READMon Aug 7, 2006 10:08
Here’s how the UN Resolution should have read.
1.) Israel and Hezbollah will both immediately adopt a permanent ceasefire.
2.) Israel will cease all air attacks and withdraw all its ground forces from Lebanon.
3.) Hezbollah will cease all rocket attacks on Israel and cease all military actions against Israel in Southern Lebanon during the withdrawal phase.
4.) Hezbollah will return all Israeli prisoners that it holds.
5.) Israel will return all Hezbollah/Lebanese prisoners that it holds.
6.) Israel will pay reparation for all the damage it has caused to Lebanese infrastructure.
7.) Hezbollah will pay reparation for all the damage it has caused in Israel.
8.) Israel will guarantee not to carry out any further incursions into Southern Lebanon.
9.) Hezbollah will guarantee not to carry out any further incursions into Northern Israel.
10.) Both Israel and Lebanon are to accept a United Nations Peacekeeping force to be situated in Southern Lebanon and Northern Israel until the situation is effectively and permanently stabilised.
And - Then another United Nations Resolution should be promulgated as below in respect to the Israel/Palestinian crisis:-
1.) Israel will withdraw all its troops and tanks from Gaza, and guarantee no further military action will be undertaken in those areas.
2.) Israel will permanently hand over Gaza and the West Bank to the Palestinians and allow the formation of a Palestinian State.
3.) Israel will guarantee not to enter or to interfere militarily in the new Palestinian State.
4.) The Hamas Government will guarantee no further military action will carried out against Israel, and that Israel has a right to exist within its own borders.
5.) Israel will demolish “the barrier” wall.
6.) Hamas/Palestinian Organisations will release and hand over any Israeli prisoners that they are holding.
7.) Israel will release and hand over any Hamas/Palestinian prisoners that it is holding.
8.) Israel and Palestine are to accept the presence of a United Nations Peacekeeping force in both countries until such time as the situation is permanently stabilised.
The fact is that if the United Nations was an effective organisation that stood up to the political posturing of the United States the world would be in much better shape.
When I watch John Bolton the United States Ambassador to the UN speak on TV, I cannot believe that the man can stand there so blatantly pro Israel, so full of absolute lies and doublespeak while not giving a damn about the loss of life and immeasurable suffering of innocent people, and I wonder how a person can become like him, and I wonder how the Worlds Superpower whom he represents has become such a rotten, unprincipled and morally corrupt nation.
It is time for the UN to remove the power of veto from Security Council members to prevent the US from carrying out its dirty work along with its ally - Israel.
