Israel's Bloodiest Day
Updated: 20:58, Sunday August 06, 2006
http://news.sky.com/skynews/article/0,,30000-1229859,00.htmlAt least three people have died and 150 injured in a rocket attack on the Israeli city of Haifa - 12 reservists were killed earlier in the bloodiest day of the conflict for Israel so far.
The attack on Haifa saw several rockets hit a busy residential area. At least two neighbouring houses collapsed, trapping people inside.
It was the most intense attack on Haifa since the conflict began and the deadliest day for Israel.
Israel responded by attacking Qana in Lebanon, the town from which Israel said the missiles had been fired. Qana was attacked by Israel last month, killing 54 civilians.
The soldiers who died earlier in the day were attending a religious service on a kibbutz in the border town of Kfar Giladi when the missile struck.

It was part of a barrage of over 80 Hizbollah rockets which landed across northern Israel this morning.
Eight other people were injured in the barrage - the worst in the area since the violence began on July 12.
Other rockets landed around another border town, Kiryat Shmona.
Israeli jets launched a wave of new attacks on Beirut, with at least six explosions heard by Sky News.
Meanwhile Israel said it had captured a Hizbollah militant involved in the kidnap of two Israeli soldiers which triggered the conflict.
Hizbollah and Israel have both intensified military action with airstrikes and ground operations, as well as missile attacks.
More Israeli troops have entered Lebanon while warplanes have targeted roads and bridges across the country.

It appears both sides are trying to inflict maximum damage before a draft UN ceasefire resolution takes hold in a few days time.
Early on Sunday, the Israeli army broadened its offensive to attack a Palestinian group in southeastern Lebanon.
Warplanes bombed at least two camps of the Syrian-backed Popular Front for the Liberation of Palestine. Lebanese officials said no casualties were reported in either raid.
During the night six people were killed and four wounded in a missile attack on Ansar, a village in southern Lebanon.
Hizbollah says it will not stop fighting until Israel withdraws all its troops from the country. Israel has said it has no plans to end its offensive for the time being.
Tourism Minister Isaac Herzog said: "We still have the coming days for many military missions."
The conflict began 26 days ago when Hizbollah militants kidnapped two Israeli soldiers.
