Dear Mr Whitley,

Thank you for your e-mail and inquiry.

- Since 1997 Uranium Medical Research Centre (UMRC) has been conducting independent scientific research on internal contamination with radioactive isotopes including DU. The study is designed to determine the presence and quantities of radioisotopes in exposed veterans and civilians, which is necessary to identify depleted uranium (DU) or enriched non-depleted uranium also called natural uranium (NDU or NU). Urine, bone, soft tissue and/or water, sand or soil samples are analysed using Thermal Ionisation Mass Spectrometry (TIMS) and Plasma Ionisation Multicollector Mass Spectrometry (PIMMS). The testing process is challenging and very involved, only a few laboratories in the world have both the equipment and expertise to undertake this work.

This is sent to acknowledge receipt of your e-mail and to let you know that it has been forwarded to Dr Durakovic. However, it has also been forwarded to Mrs Stella Gresham who is the UMRC Testing Coordinator in the US, who should also be able to assist you further for remaining questions. You can reach her directly at sgresham@rochester.rr.com .

It may also be of interest to you to go to our website - http://www.umrc.net/pdf/iraqi_freedom_bioassay_program.pdf. This document describes in greater detail the actual testing programme and our activities.

Sincerely,
Marléne Lidén
UMRC International Coordinator

Uranium Medical Research Centre (UMRC) is concerned about the dangers to human health and the environment resulting from the use of Uranium and DU in conventional weapons. However, UMRC is strictly a research organisation whose primary task is to provide objective and expert research on the health and environmental effects of DU and other radioisotopes. For further information please visit our website http://www.umrc.net
UMRC is a not-for-profit charitable organisation and its staff are all volunteers.

For Dr. Asaf Durokavic:

Please tell me if a military or civilian person is exposed to DU in Iraq or where ever, does the Mass Spectrometer read the presence of DU or what will? Looking for a screening method for all military and civilian employees or visitors to the Iraq or Afghan battle areas. Understand only perhaps 50 of these sections of equipment are available. Is this TRUE? Where are they if you know? Thanks. A decorated Veteran of One-Ralph Charles Whitley, Sr. Tampa, Florida 070906

Ladies and Gentlemen:

Following received this date on DU testing of our military and civilian employees since the initial START of Wars with Iraq and Afghanistan where Depleted Uranium shells exploded as designed leaving perhaps a no man's land of radioactive particles and emitting perhaps untold amounts of harmful toxic GAS which perhaps has started moving across the GLOBE.

The question is not ARE THESE WEAPONS BANNED but what are we going to do now that we have such obvious contamination of our troops and animals?

Please provide the names and full addresses plus type of monitoring or testing equipment in the FEW WORLD FACILITIES and perhaps explain or see why every man and woman plus canine have not been put through this process of testing as well as testing done to see how far the radioactive material has been carried to other continents.

The Term "Throw away Soldiers" cannot mean we do not test them ALL with this PLAGUE OF 2006!

Mass/Gas Spectrometer is NOT MADE AVAILABLE as well as the MASS Spectrometry or Gas Spectrometry results are not checked for ALL who are coming from these Battle Areas?

Where in heavens name are these "Only a few laboratories in the World?"
