Jolly RogerArming the EnemyFri Jun 25, 2004 01:07216.99.245.132 One thing most of us can agree on is that our strongest common enemies are the multi-national corporations that have bought our government, and sold our freedom. One thing we too often forget is that our enemies are dependant upon us, as consumers, for their very survival. Our enemies thrive on profit, and without it, they’ll die. With that in mind, I would like to ask you to be very careful about what you consume, and where you spend your ever-devaluing dollar. Carmike Cinemas has announced that they will not be showing Fahrenheit911 in any of their theaters, and I guess they have that right, but I will never walk into another one of their theaters in this lifetime, and I’m not really a big fan of Michael Moore either. I just object to their attempt to control the free exchange of ideas. When RIAA began suing their customers for internet song swapping, I vowed to never buy another CD, and began copying my Napster tunes, and distributing them for free. They want to charge $15 for a CD that’s made for a nickel, and then they want to drag their customers into court too? All I see in the music industry lately is shameless greed and an amazing lack of talent. They can keep their stinkin’ CD’s. Borrow CD’s you want (lend CD’s you own), and copy them. Don’t give the recording industry a dime. I’d like to see the members of Iron Maiden out on the street begging for spare change, and for suing their own fans, that’s exactly what they deserve. When corporate profits drop a few percentage points they worry, and a successful boycott can bring them to their knees. I understand that it’s difficult for a few people to even make a dent, but things like this start small, and are spread by word of mouth, and eventually become popular. One problem is that in some places, the corporations have a monopoly on many of life’s necessities, but the bigger problem is that we’ve grown accustomed to the unnecessary conveniences and luxuries they provide, and this weakness in us has become their strength. The best way to overcome this weakness is to nurture true hatred for the sons-of-bitches, and that will help you to make every attempt to spend your money elsewhere. Once you are fuming with hatred, the inconveniences you suffer for the cause will actually be satisfying. I lost track of all the things I’m boycotting, so I simply don’t buy too much besides food, and booze, but I own a satisfying feeling of liberation and rebellion. Smash your television set. I haven’t looked at their idiot box in over a decade, and I haven’t missed it for a minute. Many people have asked me how I live without TV. I wonder why they can’t imagine life without one. Once it’s gone, you’ll simply find other things to do. Boycott their whole goddamn system. Don’t buy anything you don’t need. Screw ‘em all. Screw ‘em where they breath. Kill the bastards by simply not giving them your money, or your mind.
