“Replacement” for Al-Zarqawi – Did He Exist Before June 2006?

If you go up to any search engine and try to find any mention of Al-Masri before June 1 2006, you will come up empty. Go to lists of Egyptian terrorists: nothing. For a “top lieutenant” in Al Qaeda with a “legendary reputation” (as described by the Pentagon), Al Masri sure hasn’t generated any press. Maybe that’s because he didn’t exist before June 1. Here’s the evidence that Al Masri is a fabrication:

1. A few months ago, the Pentagon was claiming that Al Zarqawi didn’t have much power and influence anymore amongst the terrorist set and that he was being supplanted by a guy named Al Baghdadi. But when bloggers made fun of this obvious Pollywood ploy (I mean, c’mon! Al BAGHDADI?) this “Zarqawi replacement” suddenly disappeared from all reports. This is evidence that the Pentagon was trawling around for an alternative to their favorite bogeyman.

2. One of the things that has dogged the Pentagon’s propaganda campaign re: both Osama and Zarqawi is that they both had facial structures that were hard to fake with doubles (long faces with distinctive bone structures). Bloggers have had great fun comparing various incarnations of the terrorists and suggesting they may be “shape shifters” as well as super-terrorists.

So now take a look at Al-Masri’s photo. A rounded face, generic, non-dstinctive bone structure. There’s plenty of guys that look like him – convincing doubles will be easy to find.

3. The name: Al Masri. It is easy for westerners like Americans to say, spell, and remember. Just like Al Baghdadi would have been.

4. Al Masri the Egyptian: Making Al Masri an Egyptian is a distinct propaganda advantage to Bush, who can use it to tie the war in Iraq to 9/11, which he and his Congressional henchmen are trying harder to do lately. One of the terrorists responsible for 9/11 was allegedly Mohammed Atta, an Egyptian. Expect to hear Atta mentioned with systematic frequency in coming weeks, and the name paired with Al Masri and the war in Iraq in various ways. I wouldn’t be at all surprised to hear the claim made that Al Masri and Atta were old pals and that Al Masri somehow was involved directly in 9/11.

Notice how they didn’t make Al Masri a Saudi, which would have been much more realistic. Bush still has too many Saudi friends, and has consistently avoided pairing Saudi Arabia with 9/11, even though most of those responsible were Saudis.

5. Finally, Al Masri has sprung from nowhere. If you look for lists of Egyptian terrorists (those compiled before this month) you will not find Al Masri listed. But keep alert to lists that have been “recently updated” – as there will be an attempt to retroactively fabricate an Al Masri history.
