Murtha Resolution Blacked out by Media

There has NEVER been a time in US history when the media worked so systematically and persistently AGAINST the public interest. And here is the most glaring recent example. While covering the GOP’s “Iraq resolution” thoroughly, and spinning it into something it was not, the media failed to ever mention the alternative proposal: the Murtha Resolution. And, when it was mentioned, it was misrepresented as a push by the Democrats for an all but overnight pullout. The blacking out of the highly constructive and workable Murtha resolution is proof positive that the mainstream media does NOT care about the US troops, true democracy, a free press, the Constitution or even the two-party system. It’s all about kissing Bush butt and hoping for financial/regulatory benefits - screw the American public. And any “journalist” going along with the program is not only a sellout, they are cowards and accomplices to mass murder. If you put “Murtha Resolution” into a google news search, I got four links, one to a UK site, none of them stories ON the resolution. Three were editorials in which the resolution is simply mentioned. http://news.google.com/news?hl=en&ned=us&q=%22Murtha+Resolution%22

Pentagon Tries to Deep Six “Talking Points” Propaganda Guide

The GOP dominated (as in stranglehold) Congress isn’t used to being questioned when ramming through legislation, bills, and resolutions that only a few Americans would approve of if given half a chance. The “strangleholders” especially aren’t used to being DEBATED. That smacks far too much of democracy. Nope, instead, the GOP has operated in tandem with the Pentagon. So when the Democrats finally succeeded in forcing a debate on the GOP’s so-called “Iraq resolution” (a complete sham designed to hoodwink constituents and make it look like their worthless reps are actually doing something constructive), the Repugs panicked and screamed for help from their handlers in the Pentagon. In response, the Pentagon propaganda department hastily sent out a 74-page propaganda guide filled with nifty tips on how to efficiently lie and misrepresent facts of the war to the public. For example, the guide suggests that, when confronted by the fact that no WMDs were found in Iraq, one should not address this issue but instead turn the topic to how nasty a dictator Saddam was. It also suggested bringing up the success at Tallafar (which is a myth), and how anyone who wants to pull out of Iraq is just “cutting and running.” This guide, say my sources, was sent not just to the warmongering Repugs in Congress, but to editors and reporters.

But when word got out that the Repugs were being coached by the Pentagon, the latter hastily sent out an e-mail trying to retract the guide. Today in google, just about all reference to it has been expunged from the news search engine. To her credit, CBS’s Cheryl Atkinson mentioned the existence of the guide on the evening news (6/15), but apparently had been instructed to “tone it down,” don’t use the term “talking points,” and point out that many of the issues the guide raised were “factual.” The CBS program managers had obviously not only received the guide, but also the Rumsfeld memos urging them to either not mention the guide or play it down.
