Amidst all the hullaballoo about Ronald Wilson Reagan (666), let's not forget about his operating of the death squads in Central America and elsewhere, which was the centerpiece of his term.

The really interesting thing about the Reagan years was the attempted assassination after he was in office only two months. If he had died, guess who would have become president, in 1980. George H.W. Bush, former director of central "intelligence", was vice president at the time.

Bush was Reagan's main opponent in the 1980 Republican primaries. The fight had been bitter. Bush was a charter member of the Tri-Lateral Commission, and represented the financial elite wing of the GOP, who saw Reagan as an annoying upstart actor who had grown too big for his britches. Reagan promised during the primaries that he would not have any Tri-Lats in his cabinet if elected.

Reagan picked Gerald Ford as his running mate. It is not credible that he would not have consulted with Ford first. But Ford backed out the next day and Reagan's handlers and the Convention wound up lashing Reagan and Bush together.

John Hinckley, the attempted assassin of Reagan, was reported widely in the media at the time to be dating a Bush niece, and Hinckley's father was an Bush fellow oil man and the top contributor in Colorado to the 1980 Bush primary campaign against Reagan. Hinckley's behavior exhibited a wierd fascination with the actress Jody Foster, an obsession that suggests that he was a mind-control victim: Hinckley may have been given post-hypnotic suggestions in which he would somehow be motivated in the shooting by having to prove his manipulated "love" for the actress.
