"Also, Photo 6 shows that at least three of them are wearing bullet proof vests. Has anyone seen Al queda members wearing heavy and cumbersome bullet proof vests?"

Your photo interpretation needs a little work. The three are no wearing bullet proof vests but a common chest webbing with front-mounted AK/AKM ammo pouches (they could hold 30-round magazines).

Orginally designed by the USSR, the AK/AKM Chest Webbing is common all over the world. Without seeing a clear, detailed photo I can not tell you which model of the AK Chest Pouch it is but it definitly is one. See: http://www.specopsbrand.com/assets/product_html/prod_ak47chestrig.html

Somewhere around here I have one myself thatI took off a NVA in 1967. I believe it was manufactured in Romania. But they are made all over the world, and are common as sand in the Middle East.

I don't buy the military cap thing either nor the bit about jewlry. Ever hard of the gold souk?
