US to Provide Three Billion Dollar Loan Guarantees to Israel

WASHINGTON (AFP) - The United States is to provide loan guarantees totaling three billion dollars to Israel for 2005-2008, a joint statement said.
A meeting of the US-Israel Joint Economic Development Group that ended Monday agreed that the guarantees be authorized in annual, one-billion-dollar tranches, according to the statement issued by the State Department. The mechanism was agreed upon following a US Congress decision to extend the period of a Loan Guarantee Program to Israel to 2008.
"The delegations agreed on the broad terms for release" of the 2005 tranche of one billion dollars, the statement said, adding that the remaining two billion dollars would be released based on economic reform and fiscal restraint by Israel.
At the meeting, the United States underscored the importance to Israel's economy of fiscal discipline, particularly limiting the growth of government expenditures, and continued economic reform, the statement said.
The Israeli delegation, it said, reaffirmed its commitment to maintaining its reform program in the years ahead. Capital market reform, monetary policy and labor market developments were also discussed at talks.
The Israeli delegation was chaired by Joseph Bachar, director general of the Israeli Finance Ministry, while the US delegation was led by Anthony Wayne, assistant secretary of state for economic and business affairs, who was joined by Randal Quarles, assistant secretary of treasury for international affairs.

I wonder what the American taxpayer has got to say about this. The American administration is propping up a country the legitimacy of it is questionable in the eyes of the Muslim World & is the main cause of conflict in the Middle East. Its policy in the Middle East revolves around the interests of Israel. As a result it cannot take an objective assessment of the situation there & thus is on a collision course with the Muslim world. Which will spell disaster for the entire world.
