OK...

Boeing Command Aircraft with pods:

Boeing E-8C Joint STARS... kinda large but...
http://www.strategic-air-command.com/aircraft/command/e-8c-joint_stars.htm

More appropriate... A smaller more upgraded form...

Boeing E-10A - MC2A (Multi-Sensor Command and Control Aircraft) is a 767-400; so we know the 767 can be configured with pods...

more on these systems can be found at:
http://www.globalsecurity.org/intell/systems/e-10.htm

Scroll down this page where they discuss the GSM or Ground Station Module and the other ground stations... Another website claimed the generator outside the Pentagon might be for an expedient landing assist, but a lot of things look like generators...
http://www.globalsecurity.org/intell/systems/jstars-gsm.htm

"The Multi-Sensor Command and Control Constellation (MC2C) (also known as the "C2 Constellation Program") is a future “constellation” of air and space command and control, intelligence, surveillance and reconnaissance capabilities – consisting of space-based systems, unmanned aerial vehicles, ground stations, and possibly a new multi-sensor command and control aircraft to replace the existing array of command & control (C2) intelligence, surveillance, reconnaissance (C2ISR) aircraft."

Hope this helps shed light on the reason why the earlier article mentioned that Boeing could not comment on 'pods' on grounds of national security. This is the state of the art form command and control aircraft are taking.

kind regards
