Iraq Meltdown: Why Generals of Conscience are Taking a Stand
Fri Apr 14, 2006 15:48

Rumsfeld is trying to treat the war in Iraq like just another corporate boardroom game. He thinks all he needs to do is bully and bluster, issue phony information, and "sell" the product to the public at any cost.

But,fortunatley, there are people of conscience and integrity in the Pentagon who are tired of having an incompetent blowhard phony in charge of the fate of millions of human lives. The courageous stand by the six generals gives hope in an otherwise black pit.

Iraq Is in a Meltdown

Downward Spiral in Iraq Hidden by Media Blackout, Rumsfeld's Fact Manipulation

So while the mainstream media has been stuffing the news with 9/11 images, the Moussaoui trial, bogus info on Iran, and idiotic news magazine fluff pieces, the story they DON'T want you to see (as per Donald Rumsfeld's orders, no doubt) has been continuing to unfold: the meltdown of Iraq.

According to the US Military's OWN reports, only a very small section of Iraq, up in the northwestern corner can be described as stable and functioning - and that's relative to the rest of the country. Nearly one-third of Iraq is in a state described as critical: "Government not functioning or only single strong leader; no infrastructure for economy to develop; high levels of anti-Iraq forces activity, assassinations and extremism." The rest of the country is in various states ranging from "moderate" to "serious" ("Government not fully formed; economy stagnant; unemployment high; routine anti-Iraq forces activity, assassinations and extremism").

This report did NOT run in the US media; I found it in the BBC.

But it gets worse, much, much worse.

The above assessment was from JANUARY! That means the assessment describes conditions BEFORE the bombing of the Shiite temple, BEFORE conditions exploded into all-out civil war. Things are far, far worse now, with sectarian violence and the US troop death count skyrocketing.

So it is obvious that Rumsfeld is trying to hide the US failure in IRaq by superimposing January's assessment over April's reality. I.e., Rummy is, as we all know, a lying sack of sh*t..

Since February, 65,000 Iraqis have become Refugees from Violence

So while Iraq burns and thousands become tent-city refugees, the mainstream media has instead been busily dishing up 9/11 propaganda and cheery fluff. I mean, we really needed that five-minute story on the budding Country Music star on CBS Nighly News on 4/13 so much more than we needed the truth about a war that claims hundreds of millions of dollars and hundreds of lives each month. (There's a time and place for stories like this, but not as replacements for real, critically important news).

This is from the BBC:" At least 65,000 Iraqis have fled their homes as a result of sectarian violence and intimidation, according to new figures from the Iraqi government. And the rate at which Iraqis are being displaced is increasing. Figures given to the BBC by the Ministry for Displacement and Migration show a doubling in the last two weeks of the number of Iraqis forced to move.

There has been a sharp rise in sectarian violence since the bombing of an important Shia shrine in February. This triggered the current tensions between the country's majority Shia Muslims and minority Sunni Muslims, and hundreds of people have since been killed. Reports of people leaving their homes because of violence or intimidation, or simply because they no longer feel safe, are becoming more and more common. "

In addition to the growing number of displaced Iraqis, the number of Iraqi civilian lives claimed by violence is skyrocketing, too. In March, over 1,300 civilians were killed. But this isn't newsworthy? READ MORE

Iraq Civil War Can No Longer Be Denied

If the White House and the mainstream media think they are fooling anyone by refusing to admit that Iraq is in the throes of a full blown civil war, then they are even more deluded that I ever suspected! This report in the Chicago Tribune finally throws it out there - not coming right out and saying that Iraq is in a civil war in the body of the article, of course, but laying out the evidence and making a compelling case. Kudos and hugs to the spunky copyeditor who put the headline on this article and called a spade a spade: "On the Ground It's a Civil War." Wonder how long that will remain before it is whisked away and replaced with a headline like "Debate continues over Civil War."
