A CALL FOR A DALLAS COUNTY RESOLUTION ON MARRIAGE


Presented by Richard P. Sheridan to the Dallas County Commissioners Court

March 23, 2004


Our country was founded with Godly principles…One Nation, Under God…principles intended to bring freedom, happiness, and prosperity to “We the People.” Today, many of these principles are not only being challenged, but they are being destroyed and replaced by principles based, in large part, on a secret, dark agenda. The “Barbarians”, those who would conquer “We the People”, are at the gates, at the entrance to our homes, at entrance to our communities, to our cities and counties. In many cases, they are already among us. As with the fall of Rome, so too has the United States, “We the People”, fallen into all forms of evil and debauchery. That once great empire of Rome was destroyed because it became weak from greed, lust, and sexual perversions. To stop the similar demise of the United States, we must, before it’s too late, before we become a totally Godless society ruled by the barbarians, stand up to the evil forces amongst us today, and purify and rebuild our society, starting at the city and county level. A city or county is like a plug of grass, and its goodness or evil will spread throughout our land.

Let us now take a stand for marriage, that essential building block of a Good and Godly society. Peter, Paul, and Mary were and are artists that responded to their times, and helped raise the consciousness, the understanding of the need for the civil rights movement and the movement against the Vietnam war, against all wars. The following is what they had to say about marriage, which today has become a national UN-Civil Rights movement. Peter, Paul, and Mary believed that this song, “There is Love”, was given to them by a higher power.

“He is now to be among you at the calling of your heart,
Rest assured this troubadour is acting on his part.
The union of your spirits here has caused him to remain,
For whenever two or more of you are gathered in his name,
There is love…There is love.”

“Well a man shall leave his mother, and a woman leave her home,
They shall travel on to where two shall be as one.
As it was in the beginning, is now on till the end,
Woman draws her life from man, and gives it back again,
There is love…There is love.”

“Oh, then what’s to be the reason for becoming man and wife,
Is it love that brings you here and love that brings you live?
For if loving is the answer, then who’s the giving for,
If you believe in something that you’ve never seen before,
There is love...There is love.”

Dallas County Commissioners, and Judge Keliher, marriage, the sacred union of a man and a woman, is under attack throughout the United States. Marriage is the essential building block in our community, in our cities, in our counties, in our nation, and in our world. Marriage is the light on the road of life. Marriage is what keeps us going, keeps society moving forward. Good, stable citizens come from good and Godly marriages. To quote Peter, Paul, and Mary again:


“Don’t let the light go out, it’s lasted so many years.

Don’t let the light go out, let it shine through our love and our tears.”



I beseech you to put forward a Resolution reconfirming the centuries old, traditional definition of marriage for all the people, for the citizens of Dallas County to know and be reminded of in these challenging times. Our County has laws and regulations intended to maintain law and order, peace and tranquility, intended to maintain the happiness of the people of Dallas County. Our society today has the many problems that we see because of the failure of traditional marriages, and the growth of secular, ala cart marriages, “New Age” marriages. Our traditional, Godly marriage between a man and a woman is about…

“To keep the human race going, to keep the ideas flowing, to arm our children for the world not with greed, hate, lust, and deceit, but with truth and love, they’re so complete. For with these tools they will build a road straight and sound to carry any load, and they will bring us all one day to the place that we seek, where we are from before we became weak.”

I apologize to any who is offended by these words, who may feel threatened by these words. God and God’s messengers, God’s workers don’t threaten. They try to reveal truths intended on helping us remove the self-imposed chains which are promoted and facilitated by our enemies. Sometimes the truth is like a bucket of cold water thrown in one’s face. Too many of us have desensitized ourselves to the evils amongst us and the true peril that we are in today. Too many of us fail to act, fail to respond to a crisis because of fear. It is fear which causes us to hesitate, and that hesitation causes our worse fears to come true.
