Scalia was right. Read Romans, chapter 13.

However, the rule of law and the authority of states is in the power of retribution, the rule of condemnation, which is contrary to the practice and principles of Christianity.

So what Scalia is describing here is the realm of ignorance, the ruler ship of evil that rules over evildoers. And this ruler ship of evil, secular governments, is ordained by God to chase people away from ignorance toward God's truth.

State's have no power except that which they provoke through their power of retribution.

Repent. Have a change of heart, and you will not be under the curse of the law.

The law only manages ignorance and sin.

Christ called us to repentance. And through Christ we are redeemed from the curse of the law.
