Terrorism Schmerrorism

Hello Good People,

I am becoming numb to the word "terrorism". A few years ago, it wasn't even in my vocabulary. Now it seems like the new catch word for everything associated with evil and criminal. There is a thing called International Terrorism (IT) which we used to refer to as something that happens..."over there" somewhere, (as opposed to "not here", wherever either might be today). Domestic Terrorism (DT) had not been invented yet. Now, Homeland Security considers Domestic Violence to be just that...Domestic Terrorism. Did you notice? The sad thing is, we have agreed to the terms without realizing it. Now you can have your name added to a Homeland Security watch list, if you hit your husband over the head with a frying pan. You won't be allowed to register to own a firearm, or vote in the next election, if you fall asleep at the wheel, so don't. It's not just me, we are all getting numbed.

While we wait for the list that bears the names of the all the things we should be afraid of to grow, I think I'll yawn. Life is too short to fear it. I think about my own self recognized fears, (heights, needles, electricity, snakes, etc..), and I can't bring myself to add more stuff to that list. In fact, I have too many on it already.

It is my observation that there is no defense against a suicide bomber... or even the likes of the DC Sniper. The people in the middle east who live in an environment where a trip to the plaza could be their last are not hiding under their beds and are not demanding anyone make them safe. In a way they are more alive and more free than we are. I read one bomb blast survivor respond to an interviewer saying, "Every day is a miracle". How many of us have the attitude that every day is a miracle?

I wonder why I can't remember to be happy? How come I never feel like crowing? Instead I am always shaking my head about this or that. Then I look out my window and peruse the layout of the farm yard where I now live, and see a couple of champion Roosters perched on the corral fence. I may be wrong, but I think the 100+ roosters roaming around our farm have discovered the secret to happiness. All they do is crow. Despite the fact they have to peck and scratch for food wherever they can find it (picture a barnyard scene in the snow), and they have to stay ahead of the dogs, the coyotes, foxes, skunks, (and me), I never see them cowering. They are a pleasure to be around, cause they are self reliant, and they make no demands on me. I used to fret over leaving them food and water and shelter and they were always just ordinary chickens, lousy with lice and missing half their feathers. Then one day I ran out of money for chicken feed and nowhere to sell them so I just set them free. They literally had to start living that day. Since they have been allowed to fend for themselves, they have evolved into the most awesome fowl to behold... Huge and fully feathered. No more frozen combs or feet either. They've formed little communities here and there. I couldn't tell you who the Governor even is. A continual pecking order from dawn to dusk is handled without an attorney present. The process of living every moment of every day like it might be their last has enabled them to survive... and thrive. Is this Chicken Utopia? Is this a Unified Settlement? Does any body think life on the brink would be stressful? Filled with sudden adrenalin rushes? Drama? I don't know, I am not yet living my life on the edge, I may be awake now, but I am still 'comfortably numb'. (Pink Floyd coined the term back in '79)

The experts say we should avoid stress, adrenalin rushes, and play down the drama, so we can live longer. Hmmm?

Live longer but not be so alive? Now there's the big choice.

So what's it gonna be? We can refuse to be afraid of the unknown enemy. Face the day hourly. Listen to the breeze. Breathe in. Sense life around us. Be alive. Grow and Crow. Pecking order is not Domestic Terrorism. Fox invasion is no cause for alarm if you can fly or find a good roost. Our 150+ hens on the other hand have the comfort of the insulated chicken coop, with all the cozy roosts, matching nests, self feeders, freezeless waterers, and windows facing the morning sun. What kind of Utopia do the hens perceive? Even if you leave the door open while you're in the hen house, they won't leave... peck and scratch? (What's that?)... Hope the power doesn't fail or the fresh water supply will freeze.. And what about that truck that brings the lay mash? Hope those roads don't stay drifted too long.. could be a disaster.. My wife and I look at each other and silently know that everything will be fine until one night our 11 year old egg gatherer wont get the door latch hooked right and Johnny Weasel (International Terrorism), will slip in... He will kill the whole room full of occupants just out of pleasure... and not because JW is evil. (He's just being a weasel) Our loss will be because we chose to interfere with the natural flow that God instilled in our flock because among other things, we're too lazy to gather eggs all over the place. That's the downside. So where were you going with that idea of building a building so tall? Sooner or later it had to come down, like all the others will. (Gravity) WE did this, yes, but will we learn from it?

I dunno, we keep striving to become more comfortable, and less self reliant.

This little story of the henhouse mentality is not unlike us 2 leggeds depending on our Militarys keep us safe, and our governments keep us fed. In reality, they are just keeping us productive, dependent, desensitized, and dumb. I say this as I check the thermostat. Hmmm?

Soo....anybody ready to fly the coop?

Come on Sterling, we need that technology! [ http://www.pureenergysystems.com ]
