Bombing NPT signer Iran? Libya, France sign nuclear accord

Libya and France may be ready to sign a 'nuclear accord', which makes the PNAC group's warmongering concerning Iran, which - contrary to Israel - has signed the Non Proliferation Treaty* - all the more inhumane.

In a very informative article* by Mike Whitney (Shock And Awe; The sequel) - he wrote: "The Bush administration has unilaterally repealed the Nuclear Nonproliferation Treaty (NPT) by demanding that Iran cease all uranium enrichment. This action overturns the central principle of the treaty which provides states with the “inalienable right” (NPT phrase) to enrich uranium for peaceful purposes. Two years of intrusive inspections by the UN watchdog agency (IAEA) HAVE NOT PRODUCED “ANY EVIDENCE OF NUCLEAR WEAPONS PROGRAMS” OR ANY DIVERSION OF NUCLEAR MATERIAL. Nevertheless, the US insists that Iran be deprived of the same right that is afforded to every other signatory of the NPT.*

Libya, France to sign nuclear accord

France is poised to sign a civilian nuclear agreement with Libya, the Financial Times reported Wednesday.
    
    The Times quoted Patrick Ollier, president of the economic affairs committee in France's National Assembly, as saying an outline agreement "should be signed in the next two weeks."
    
    Following Moammar Gadhafi's decision to compensate the victims of the 1988 Lockerbie bombing* and renounce weapons of mass destruction, the former pariah has seen his country welcomed back into the realm of diplomacy.
    
    "President Gadhafi brought all that was necessary for France and Europe to (welcome him into) the community of nations," Ollier said in the Times.
    
    "The Libyans are trying to open all their markets to the outside world but we are in competition with the Spanish, the Italians, the British and even, in oil, the Americans. Total (the French oil group) tried, but most of the (oil) contracts were taken by the Americans and the British."
    
    The agreement, which will be conditional upon Libya cooperating with the International Atomic Energy Agency, will cover a civilian nuclear program for the production of energy. Following the renouncing of its nuclear weapons ambitions in December 2003, Libya was allowed to continue using nuclear power for civilian purposes.
    
    Nuclear analysts see little cause for concern in Libya's nuclear program, as the country will not be enriching its own uranium, and its nuclear facilities will be under IAEA supervision.
