Bombing Iran: Never Say Never

Bush says he wants “diplomacy to work” in Iran. But he doesn’t mean it. Bush told European journalists “you never want a president to say never, but military action is certainly not, is never the president’s first choice.” On both counts Bush is speaking through a certain orifice that is not his mouth.

Smoke and mirrors come to mind. Bush’s first option is invariably to shock and awe his Strausscon proclaimed enemies. In the lead-up to the invasion of Afghanistan, the Taliban wanted to talk, even mused the idea of turning over Osama bin Laden. No deal. “They must not have heard. There are no negotiations,” said Bush http://www.wsws.org/articles/2001/oct2001/tali-o16.shtml , then he shocked and awed them.

Bush said Saddam had weapons of mass destruction. Iraq accepted an unconditional return of UN inspectors. Saddam even sent a letter to Kofi Annan accepting a unanimous UN Security Council vote backing a US-British resolution requiring Iraq to reinstate weapons inspectors. Iraq even allowed the CIA in the country to hunt for weapons of mass destruction. Hans Blix reported the UN had found “zilch” in Iraq. Blix said Iraq was in full compliance with resolution 1441 to the UN Security Council. (See the Iraq War Timeline http://www.solcomhouse.com/iraqwartimeline.htm .)

On March 20, 2003, Bush invaded Iraq. Shortly before Christmas, 2004, the Iraq Survey Group http://www.washingtonpost.com/wp-dyn/articles/A2129-2005Jan1
1.html gave up, unable to find biological, chemical, and nuclear weapons in Iraq. In other words, there were no weapons of mass destruction in Iraq and Bush and the Strausscons made the whole thing up.

Now they want us to believe there are nukes in Iran and they want to negotiate and “military action is certainly not, is never the president’s first choice.”

And there’s a bridge I want to sell you in Brooklyn.

Bush and the Strausscons, connected at the hip with the crazed Likudites in Israel, want to shock and awe the entire Arab and Muslim Middle East, moving on to Iran and Syria now that Iraq smolders in waste. In 1997, the Strausscon front organization, Project for the New American Century (PNAC), fantasized “multiple wars” in “multiple theaters.” No negotiations, no UN resolutions required. “I think we’re going to be obliged to fight a regional war, whether we want to or not,” averred Michael Ledeen, one of the heads high up on the Strausscon totem pole. “As soon as we land in Iraq, we’re going to face the whole terrorist network,” Robert Dreyfuss http://www.pnac.info/blog/archives/000046.html quotes Ledeen as saying. Ledeen and the Strausscons had in mind the Palestine Liberation Organization, Hezbollah, Hamas, Islamic Jihad and a “collection of militant splinter groups backed by nations—Iran, Syria and Saudi Arabia—that he calls ‘the terror masters.’”

“In the case of Iran, Ledeen indicates that more than half of the population is under 25 years of age, and are eager for more freedom,” writes Carol Devine-Molin < http://www.enterstageright.com/archive/articles/1202/1202ter
rormasters.htm > in a review of Ledeen’s book, The War Against the Terror Masters. “In fact, the majority of the Iranian people are now reportedly fed up with the repressive government. Moreover, there have already been numerous insurrections and demonstrations, signaling that the mullahs are losing control and their days are coming to an end. Ledeen urges that America find ways to support those dissidents seeking the overthrow of the current Iranian regime.”

No doubt about it—a lot of Iranians are fed up with the medieval mullahs. But this does not mean they will welcome shock and awe, the destruction of their electrical grid, water purification plants, sewage treatments facilities, hospitals, schools, etc., the whole of their civilian infrastructure. Daily we are told by the corporate media Bush and the Strausscons—or maybe the Israelis who are impatient and believe the United States should have invaded Iran on the day after they shock and awed Iraq—will conduct “surgical” strikes against Iran’s secret nuke program, a program the International Atomic Energy Agency says does not exist. Nonsense. Bush and the Strausscons have one goal and one goal only—reduce Iran to a smoldering ruin the same way they reduced Iraq. The Iranians know this and they are making a list and checking it twice.

Earlier I quoted Daniel Byman of CFR < http://kurtnimmo.com/blog/index.php?p=576 > as saying that if the United States decides to go up against Hezbollah in Lebanon, the organization may “activate its cells” in the United States. It is not unreasonable to assume that if the United States (or Israel) attacks Iran, a likewise scenario may emerge. If Canada attacked the United States and flattened Chicago or New York, how many Americans would volunteer to respond in kind, flattening Toronto or Montreal? If the United States attacks Iran and then Lebanon—realizing Israel’s vendetta against Hezbollah, the rag-tag militia that kicked its butt—it should come as no surprise if suicide bombers strike America.

Of course, this is precisely what the Strausscons and the Likudites want. Suicide bombers at the mall will presage the beginning of World War IV, as envisioned by the madmen who are in control of the vertical and horizontal in Bushzarro world. “Podhoretz is worried that mounting US casualties in Iraq and growing public doubt about the wisdom of the failed Iraq invasion will derail the scheme to conquer the Muslim Middle East and to deracinate Islam. The Strausscon Norman Podhoretz gives his assurances that ‘the obstacles to a benevolent transformation of the Middle East—whether military, political, or religious—are not insuperable,’” writes Paul Craig Roberts http://www.lewrockwell.com/roberts/roberts68.html . “He writes that ‘there can be no question that we possess the power and the means.’ The only question is whether we have ‘the stomach to do what will be required,’” in other words kill hundreds of thousands, maybe a million or Muslims by way of the “benevolent transformation” of bunker-busters, cruise missiles, and depleted uranium.

On the day after the first mall or federal building suicide bomber strikes the United States, “stomach” will no longer be an issue.

If Scott Ritter is correct—Bush will invade or at least bombard Iran in June—we can probably expect suicide bombers at the malls next Christmas.

Shiites Pick al-Jaafari As Iraq PM Nominee
The Associated Press

Interim Iraqi Vice President Ibrahim al-Jaafari was chosen as his Shiite ticket's candidate for prime minister Tuesday after Ahmad Chalabi dropped his bid, senior alliance officials said. Pressure from within the ranks of the United Iraqi Alliance, which won Iraq's landmark Jan. 30 election, forced the withdrawal of Chalabi, a one-time Pentagon favorite, said Hussein al-Moussawi from the Shiite Political Council, an umbrella group for 38 Shiite parties... continua / continued
