Former CIA Pillar Says White House Misused Iraq Intelligence
Respected 28-year CIA intelligence analyst Paul Pillar has
accused the Bush administration of selectively gathering,
interpreting, and presenting intelligence related to Iraq. He
has also criticized the investigation of such allegations in the
past.
"...the method of investigation used by the panels...would have
caught only the crudest attempts at politicization," he wrote.
Pillar left the CIA, who responded that these are his own
personal views and not the official agency position, in 2005.
Pillar accuses US leaders of "cherry-picking" intelligence on
WMDs, Al-Queda, guerilla resistance, and the applicability of
democracy in Iraq. He says that the intelligence community's
policy, if any, was to avoid war or prepare for a messy
aftermath
