Cheryl SealFighting Fire with FlowersThu Feb 9, 2006 15:03I think the point you are trying to make is that the NeoCons are trying to undermine those who oppose them by attacking what their "enemies" consider sacred.
In the US, the corporations outrage environmentalists by selling off and desecrating the last of our natural wildernesses; they outrage workers by closing their factories or cutting their pay and benefits; outrage African Americans by allowing them to go without food or water or rescue after Katrina...and the list goes on and on. I think the widely publicized cartoons about Mohammed were also intended to outrage people.
But when anyone "rises to the bait" and responds to these provocative acts with violence, then the NeoCons win. For example, when environmental activists in this country resort to firebombing corporate offices, then they suddenly lose all the support they MIGHT have had from the public. The same thing happened in New Orleans - when some black people began to act out violently, for a while, the news was full of stories of these "savage people". Now the Muslims are acting out violently because of the cartoons and they are only hurting themselves.
People all over the world must realize that the good people of this world, regardless of race, culture, or religion, all share common values: they all believe in compassionate treatment of the helpless and needy, in protecting our environment from destruction, in working to preserve peace, in the freedom to worship as you chose without being judged by others, in respect for other cultures. The ONLY way to fight the attack on these basic human values now being launched is by communication and unity among the good folk of the world. The power of humanitarianism and openess are a thousand times greater than any weapon.Main Page - Thursday, 02/09/06
