A very small percentage is comprised of government and academic lobbyists, college students aspiring to lobbying positions, and vendors who provide services for government relations offices. The corporate sector of our membership crosses all boundaries in terms of both size and interests: defense, communications, petrochemical, pharmaceutical, financial services, insurance, transportation, and many others. Most but not all of our corporate members are located in the Washington, D.C. area. Representatives of these firms lobby only on issues of concern to their corporations. The "public" sector of our membership--trade associations, public interest groups and labor unions--are similarly diverse in their backgrounds, but are based almost exclusively in Washington. Lobbyists for these organizations may be narrowly focused in their work or may represent a wide divergence of interests. Representatives of these groups are also frequently charged with the responsibility of building coalitions among a variety of groups for a particular issue.Law and lobbying firms are "for hire" lobbyists who represent clients on a contractual basis. Most of our out-of-state members fall into this category--along with many Washington-based lobbyists--and enjoy affiliation with the national organization. Small entities particularly benefit by membership in ALL, as they are perhaps not as involved in other related organizations. Contract lobbyists obviously work a wide diversity of issues.Government and academic lobbyists (less than 1% of membership) are most similar to corporate lobbyists in that they represent only the interests of their single organization. Some are based in Washington and others around the country. The two final categories, students and vendor organizations, are generally not involved in lobbying. http://www.alldc.org/press.htm "An important document which recognizes the critical need for ethical behavior in public affairs." - Chairman Pat RobertsSenate Select Committee on EthicsThe ALL Code of Ethics is utilized as a model by various organizations and serves to strengthen our image and enhance our role as a vital and respected link in the democratic process. http://www.alldc.org/ethicscode.htm Advocacy Group Spending in the 2004 Elections OPEN SECRETS, Mon Feb 9 17:52 Calling Winston Smith : T I A Retirement Account Yuki Noguchi, Mon Feb 9 18:12
