I have confirmed reports that Kerry has decided he wants to filibuster Alito, and he is talking to his colleagues to round up the votes he needs.
More details soon, but keep calling the Alito 8!
Here is part of the speech Kerry gave yesterday. Kerry is absolutely right that Bush's nomination of Alito was all about capitulating to the radical right after they shot down Harriet Miers. I love the part about Ann Coulter!!!

Filibuster

Bush & Co. are trying to transform the US government into a dictatorship. The least the Senate opposition can do is mount a filibuster against the confirmation of Alito to the SC.
Presently, the US public is not paying attention to the issues posed by Alito's pending confirmation. The only way to get the public's attention is by grabbing the media spotlight. A sustained filibuster is the only way to get the media spotlight. A filibuster is the only way to make the GOP pay politically for confiming Alito.
The Democrats have nothing to lose by filibustering Alito's confimation. Even if the filibuster fails, at least the American people are made aware of what's at stake. The Democrats owe it to the American people, and the entire world, to at least try.
