Unfortunately you are correct as there is clear and irrefutable evidence that America will soon find itself under a military government/police state. The ladder is already here under the Patriot Act and through executive orders that give FEMA the power to suspend all U.S. Constitutional rights.
Martial law exercises are being conducted at various locations across the country in anticipation of widespread civil unrest and uprisings. A militant labor movement is growing a.k.a. Soldiers of Solidarity who are not going down without a fight. High paying manufacturing jobs are being lost to so called free trade agreements like NAFTA and CAFTA.
It is very clear that the U.S. Military/Industrial complex is poised and ready to turn against the American people. Some will not but Bush and his corporazi cabal have all the bases covered. Privatized security forces a.k.a. Blackwater USA get paid about $300 a day and will have no problem firing on American dissenters.
U.S. Army Regulation 210-35 Civilian Inmate Labor Program is an unclassified official document with frightening and outright fascist language. So, the interment camps to house enemy combatants are ready for business. They are fully staffed with Russian, German and United Nation troops who will assist in a widespread public extermination project a.k.a. Global 2000 Depopulation Project.
America's destruction and downfall more than anything else will be caused by apathy, complacency and a denial that such a horrific event could happen here. This is a fatal mistake for millions of unsuspecting men, women and children.
Remember, the Bush cabal has global ambitions of domination and enslavement of the masses. 300 million Americans from their viewpoint are called collateral damage. Unfortunate, but necessary to protect the status quo, their job security and their way of life.
