Security Tightened At Ohio Water Supplies

The Akron Beacon Journal reported on Saturday that water supplies,
reservoirs and plants in Northeast Ohio were under tightened security this
week, in the wake of an FBI alert of a terrorist threat. Akron tightened
security at Lake Rockwell, the nearby water treatment plant and at storage
reservoirs within the city. Cleveland also took extra precautions.

On Wednesday, the American Metropolitan Water Association -- a trade
group -- sent out via the Internet an FBI warning of a signed threat from
what was described as a credible, well-funded African terrorist group
threatening drinking water in 28 American cities. Information on the threat
came from Akron officials testifying at a trial in Portage County Common
Pleas Court. The warning was reportedly lifted on Friday, and federal
officers told EmergencyNet News that it may have been some sort of a "hoax."
